I have a rebuilt auto trans for a nissan 300zx twinturbo, to hold more power (PI torque converter, etc.).
I filled it with redline d4, but I'm told I should have filled it with mercedes benz 134 atf, which is thinner, could the thicker redline d4 atf be causing jerky shifts?

I don't know if Redline ATF D4 is too thick for Nissan 300zx twin-turbo transmission, but if you want to try MB newest ATF-134 you should buy Shell ATF-134 at a local Shell distributor, it's identical and approved by MB to use in their 7-sp transmission. My local Shell distributor have it for $16 a gallon compares with more than $10 a quart at MB dealer.

it's a completely rebuilt one, by specialtyz to hold up to 700rwhp (not that I would ever make that much power, stock is only 300hp to the crank), thank you for the tip....i got the shell atf for 5 dollars a quart+.

Pablo, the builder recommended i check the tps voltage and to switch the atf.

Define jerky, as in an apparent transmission issue or just very firm/quick? Aftermarket valve body? Is it a built Nissan trans or something else? I read your post but it seemed unclear on that point to me. Did it develop the symptoms when you installed D4 or is this a new trans that was initially filled with D4?

I've personally had great luck with D4 in 4R70Ws, from highly modded ones with loose multi-disc converters and aftermarket VBs seeing a lot of power and RPM to my stock daily driver, but obviously it's a different transmission.
