Redline as an additive

Does PP contain any esters?
Would there be any advantage to adding some, such as Redline, to get the advantages of eaters such as stronger film, increased lubricity, and cleanliness, etc, that they are known for?
And by adding some, save money over using 100% in an oil change.
Anyone done this?

I`ll tell you a weird combination that I used one time........Mobil 1 15W50 sc and Royal Purple 15W40. I had just enough of each to do an oci one time (using up leftover oils). It worked just fine! No probs whatsoever.

I do believe that PP has esters. That might be a part of why it performs so well.

Most (if not all) oils have esters at this point. They serve many purposes and there are many types. The presence of does not a great oil make.

I doubt it would help at all.

The add pack in Redline is meant to work with that particular basestock. You won't hurt anything, except your wallet.

I'm not a fan of mixing oils and playing backyard chemist. The amount of time and careful formulation balance that goes into each oil really should be just left alone IMO. Most oils are all compatible but when you start mixing different chemistries and formulations, you may end up with something worse than just running either of the oils by themselves.

When I mix for viscosity I cut back the OCI.

I can't imagine a blend as an improvement.

That's what i kinda think of when i hear that people tried this oil with a pinch of that and it worked "great" or i did not notice any neg. effects,stuff like that.

Well, all oils say they are compatible with other oils. Im sure the legal guys wouldnt be comfortable putting that on a bottle and risking thousands of lawsuits if there wasnt some truth to it.

Adding Red Line boosts the ZDDP and moly levels of current API certified motor oils. Because it is not API certified, it's still using relatively high levels of ZDDP.

It may increase the polarity of the oil depending on what you're mixing it with.

There's a guy on here mixing Castrol GTX and Castrol Syntec in his Ford 4.6 and had exceptional results. 20% synthetic ratio. Now, I use 5 quarts of 10w30 GTX (always used that oil) and a quart of 0w30 GC in my '86 5.0. No complaints, but I haven't done any used oil analysis.
