Hi Guys,

I have 2-3 years old Redline 5w30 ?
Is this oil safe to use in new car ?

Thank You

The oil is good to use, especially if it was unopened.

It most likely does not meet the SN spec your new car needs, but it might meet the SM spec. Which spec does your engine need? Also, redline is an ester oil, it has been stated, Royal Purple (also as ester oil) says not to use this type of oil until 2k miles are on your engine.

Id wait until 2k, if it met my engine's specs.

Royal Purple dropped the Synerlec ester except in the 5w40.

Curious to what that has to do with what I said

What difference does it make what API spec is shown on the bottle since RL isn't submitted to the API for certification anyway?

Let's stay on topic here. The oil in question is absolutely fine. Oil has No expiration, It has been around for a few billion years anyway. Same with plant based lubes. The only thing is the additives can sometimes fall out of suspension so give it a good shake.

Ndx, you haven't mentioned what vehicle you want to use it in, but if it's something German like your BMW I wouldn't use it straight but would thin it out with some Toyota 0W-20.
A 25/75 Toyota/RL blend will still give you a heavy HTHSV 3.5cP 5W-30 but with an improved 175 VI. But I'd actually recommend a 50/50 blend that with give you a shear stable 3.2cP 5W-30 but with a VI over 185.
