Record run on your original electric fuel pump

About 80k to 90k in my Ford Taurus. I replaced the OEM just after purchase (I am the 3rd owner) at 90k with Motorcraft. Recently had to replace it again at 170k. It's seen mostly Shell gas since 90k.

The Xterra in my signature went 358,000 miles on the original OEM Bosch Pump. It still worked but I think it had either a leaky check valve or a dirty filter because it cured a bit of a long start when warm. A Bosch pump went back in.

I fear my Fronty at 185,000 miles is starting to have the same issue.

I've never had a fuel pump go bad in my entire driving career, (56 years). With that said I never let my tank(s) get under half full. Especially out here in the hotter weather. I believe if you keep the fuel level above half, it helps in keeping internal fuel pump motors submerged in fuel, and allows it to run a bit cooler.

I knew a guy out here who was always running around on an empty tank. Just in the time I worked with him, (6 years), he went through 3 factory, dealer installed fuel pumps counting the original.

I believe if a person always runs there car on E they will have fuel pump issues.
My Daughter is a good example of this and still won't listen
3 fuel pumps on 2 different cars.

Multiple Ford and Chevy vans on my retired from job taken over 250k miles with no failures over 40 yrs. Same with personal ones taken over 200k miles treating the 1/4 mark as empty. Co. fleet vans never got run low as gas was Co. paid for.
Only pump failure on personal vehicles I've had was on the used purchases, not new purchases.
Had a friend burn a pump out on a Murano at 30k miles, lived by the low fuel light.
Tip, E does not mean enough.

Our 2010 Yukon is at 175K on the original pump and my son has a '08 Silverado with 250K. Our early 2000's trucks didn't make it much past 150K before needing a pump.

All women do this. They'll put 3 or 4 gallons in at a time at the gas station. I'll see a cute girl next to me at the pump, turn around and she'll be gone. Even a totyota corolla takes longer than 60 seconds to fill up.

I’ve never understood not filling the vehicle up. Who wants to go to the gas station 3x as often getting 1/3 of a tank each time? I mean, occasionally when I was super broke I’d do it, but otherwise… why?
