Recommended oil for an old oil burning engine

Just make sure you check it regularly until you rebuild it. Keep it topped off to full mark and at least you know it has a good oil with good additives in it.

The best advice I have read on this post. You must have some idea how many miles/ quart. Just because it smokes some is no reason to tear down an engine.

Yup - at 200 miles a year, I'll bet in 4 or 5 years this problem will be solved. Talk about 1st world problems...
