Recommendations Wanted: Plastic/Vinyl Protectant

I want best bang-for-the-buck, preferably AIO plastic/vinyl protectant and cleaner. Something AA, AZ, or O'Reilly's stocks. Want it mostly for plastic dash and other plastic interior trim. Not looking for the wet look, don't want any residue, and it's not for a show car. Just something to protect and preserve what's there.

Also thinking of Mother's Back To Black for exterior. Thoughts on that?

There is no best. Is this 303 on the shelf at AA, AZ, and/or O'Reilly's?

I will NOT be putting anything on the tires and do not want it to collect dust.

I also use #303 for my interior and Back to Black on exterior black plastic.

You might want to re-think that. The sidewalls are vulnerable to weather cracking from the sun.

For black plastic I use Stoner's Trim Shine.

Vinylex. My AZ stocks it. Really lasts, just don't get it on leather.

The best thing imo for interior is leather conditioner. I use it on everything. Makes your car smell great,and does`t give that fake plasticky shine. I use it on my leather seats,steering wheel,and shifter knob of course,but also on the dash,console,t-top covers,etc. I use it on the entire interior. Armor All Leather Care Protectant (the one in the spray bottle) is my fave. Doesn`t leave anything sticky,and has a great leathery smell.

303 evaporating after use put haze on the windows?
Noticed this too.


303 is my all time favorite but its very expensive now. Somewhat hard to find.. but the summit racing store is 10 miles away

Amazon is a go for either as well.


I just leave my windows down in the garage overnight after applying 303, seems to reduce the haze about 90%

LOVE 303 on sidewalls and interior.. esp darker colored interior, very little shine.

Meguires interior detailed works for me.,WM has it, as does the auto parts chains. No armour all shine either

I use megiuars M40 vinyl and rubber cleaner/conditioner. Can be found at most oreilly's.

I bought some 303 one time and thought it was a total waste of money. I used it once and then threw it away. Stuff was $24,and my bottle of $5 Formula F21 blows it away.

I like Meg's ultimate...something. The vinyl protectant. It has held up for a least a year in the sun so far, at least in the interior.

Meguiars, Vinylex, Aerospace 303 they're all essentially the same. They're all a pdms water based solution. It's all in how you use it. If you think 303 is overpriced simply buy a bottle of Armor All. It's very concentrated and if applied and left to dry will tend to impart a high gloss. The best way to apply it is to get a damp microfiber and spray the Armor All on the cloth, not the surface. Wipe and if it's still too glossy simply buff it off with a fresh microfiber. This will leave plenty of protection but leave a natural finish. Leather conditioner on plastic will attract dust. If you want to really see how concentrated Armor All is and how much value it really represents simply water it down 5 to 1. You'll get similar performance to Aerospace 303. It'll "disappear" into the plastic, clean, and leave a completely natural look on plastic and rubber and still provide protection from UV. Even in the hot Southern California sun I've had car dashes easily survive in like new condition that were upwards of 10years old.

Don't believe people who claim Armor All causes damage. It always ends up being people waot til it's too late and then try last ditch efforts to salvage dashes and they end up cracking. When the proper thing to do is a seasonal cleaning and protection, even with Armor All and your dash will last indefinitely even in a hot sunny climate.

I've used 303 for decades and still consider it among the best. Thanks to Satinsilver I received a bottle of Surf City Garage Dash Away free via a promotion. It does NOT attract dust, has UV protection, and leaves a clean matte finish. No wiping multiple times, no streaks, no hassle. It is available over the counter at many stores. My remaining 303 will now be used on tires & exterior areas to use it up. It has been replaced.

That is what I use, and it is good on all interior surfaces!
