Recommendations for rear view mirror adhesive

Auto parts stores sell a kit that includes a cleaner and a one time use tube of glue specifically for reattaching the little piece of metal that your mirror mounts to.

Make sure you 'scuff' the flat mounting surface on mirror or the adhesive glue might not last very long.

No don't scuff the glass. Use a cleaner made for the job as mentioned above or some ipa(rubbing alcohol) to remove any oils or contaminates.

This and gorilla glue

I bought mine as a kit at an autoparts store. Was about $2, it came with an alcohol swap to clean the glass surface. Just follow directions, you just stick it on and hold for a minute or so. Still holding up several years later. I had my windshield replaced and the company offered a lifetime warranty but the rear view mirror fell off months later, but for $2, I wasn't going to bother.

I used this with great success after permatex failed.

I also used the Permatex kit. What I did was glue it on, and then put tape over it to hold it on. I let that set for a week before reattaching the mirror. Yes, I had another car to drive for that week, and yes that's probably overkill, but it did work, and is still working today. That was probably 5 years ago.

This ^^^ ...depending on the adhesive of your choice, of course.

Maybe right, maybe wrong advice. Depends on the adhesive employed.

I would do what gman2304 said and drop by an auto glass shop and have them glue it on. There used to be a law in MN if it fell off, a auto glass shop was required to bond it for free. Of course they would have to fit you into their schedule. But I have done this.

I cleaned the mounting points with alcohol and used super glue gel. Let the mount sit overnight before putting the mirror back on. Been on there for years. Had bad luck with auto parts store mirror adhesive, it fell off after 2 weeks. Super glue gel came from the Dollar Tree.

I just take it to an auto glass company and let them do it, they dont charge much and do it all the time. Some things are not worth friggin about with and this is one of them.

Some are missing the reason for the special rear view mirror glue.

It is designed not to take a chunk of glass off when it fails like super glue will.

Windshield shops love super glue. LOL

I've had very bad luck with the kits sold by auto parts stores, the mirror usually falls off within a week or two. Go to Wal-Mart and get a tube of clear silicone; it's worked very well for me.
