I'm perfectly happy with the ACDelco (non-ecore) PF47 . . . they always come out nice and straight at the end of the OCI. However, I'm thinking it would be nice to have a filter with a silicone ADBV. I'm thinking the M1-101 might be it, but is there anything else I should consider?

Fram Ultra ... a truly unbiased and filter educated guy would know it has good construction and filtering performance, and therefore would consider using one - regardless of the name printed on the side of the can.

I might get a FRAM Ultra, but I'd have to get the corresponding cup wrench to go with it. The cup wrench I have is already compatible with the ACDelco PF47 and Wix 51040. Thanks fellas.

Does anybody know the corresponding FloTool Super Graphite cup wrenches for the FRAM XG3387A and the M1 M-101 ?

You can install the Ultra by hand if you have the room to get a good grip on it.

It doesn't have to be that critical. Turn it 2/3 ~ 3/4 turn after the gasket hit the base.

No kidding. I've never heard anyone using a torque wrench on an oil filter. You only need to get it "snug".

If I'm not mistaken, M1 uses a paper/synthetic blend media with a leaf spring and a silicone ADBV.

Their use of the term "synthetic media" is misleading like a lot of things called synthetic. It's a marketing buzz word. I've been in some of these paper plants. They recycle office waste and used cardboard into s slurry, drop some chopped fiberglass waste into it and call it "synthetic" or "reinforced". It's still paper.

The point here is, if you're buying a $12 oil filter thinking your coddling your engine, well, you're just wasting your money.

I noticed Wix calls theirs "Glass Enhanced Cellulose."

Kind of like "sanitation engineer" means garbage man.

Napa Gold or Fram Tough Guard. If you watch the Golds can be picked up cheap on sale, but there is nothing "cheap" about a Napa Gold.

Both the Gold and the Tough Guard are 10k filters IMO, the Fram has higher filtering efficiency but you'll be hard pressed to find one any cheaper than Wally's 6 bucks. Well worth it for longer OCI's though.

With your usual 2k mile OCIs, any filter you pick will come out looking nearly brand new. You really don't need a filter with a silicone ADBV, but if you really want one that's fine too. If variety is all you are looking for, sub in a PF52 for the PF47 and motor on.

Is this by any chance a

expedition?
