recommend me a filter, '15 Honda Accord

I have a 2015 Accord with the 3.5L V6. I use the 0w20 synthetic oil that the car is suppose to get and the maintenance minder seems to go off around 6000 miles or so. That being said I do have one Fram Tough Guard and one Fram Ultra in my stash and I can not decide what I should try after that. I know the forum is bias to Fram Ultra and anti purolator right now. I am kind of looking to buy a case of filters off ebay or rock auto for a deal.

I have always been a fan or Mobil 1 filter since I started changing my own oil but that is a wast if I am going to take that filter off in 6000 miles.

I have seen Union Sangyo and Nippon filters on ebay for Honda's for a good deal but I do not know much about them.

Motorcraft, more Ultra's, Honda A01, Wix?

Puro classic, Fram orange can, kidding.

Not sure about your Honda, but it fits the older ones with the common Fram 3593 size. If that fits your Honda, this Hyundai part will work.
 
Ask yourself: Why do I like a particular oil filter? Then ask, what is built better, filters better, holds more, than a Fram Ultra? There is your answer. Evidence supports Ultra. Emotion is why people choose others.
 
I have bought all my oil for around $1 a quart so I will be going on my last run of Mobil EP and after that will be Castrol or SynPower.

Can you provide one reason, maybe 2 reasons, why that filter performs well? If its got a paper element, .... fail.

Only if the Ultra wasn't that [censored] ugly gold color. I think that is the only downside Haha.
 
You can find all gold Fram Ultra pro series filters, no black grip on Ebay. The price is very good. I really like the look of those. One problem in having stashes of filters is they get too old to use. I would be leery of the union or other not widely sold filters on ebay.
 
I recently did my 2015 Accord's first oil change and used a WIX filter. Paid full price at O'Reilly's for maybe $7-$8. Come spring when my local NAPA has its filter sale, I will purchase a few NAPA Golds for around $4-$5 or so.
 
I would stay with a Honda filter till the warranty runs out. Why give the dealer an excuse to blame something if there is an internal engine problem during the warranty period.
 
For 6000 mile intervals even the TG would be more than fine. (That seems pretty short for a MM interval does it do severe service somehow)

I would (do) use either the Ultra or an A01 though a cheap Purolator Synthetic or Bosch Distance Plus could work its way in too.
 
The most important quality of an oil filter is that it doesn't tear or fall apart. Fram ,OEM and many other recognised brands will do fine. Purolater no.

first you ask the dealer , can you prove to the courts that the name brand filter caused the engine failure? Then call the filter manufacture and say the dealer said you P.O.S. filter caused my engine to blow up. The dealer service writers usually aren't the brightest lights on the strings. Get it in writing and don't leave with out it. Always be polite.
 
I would use a Fram Tough Guard in your application. If there's a Motorcraft filter referenced for your vehicle, then that would also be a reasonable option.
 
Do you plan on following the recommended A or B maintenance minder, alternating oil only then oil/filter... intervals?
If so, then use any of the synthetic media filters... Wix XP, Purolator PSL(soon to be Boss), RoyalPurple, Bosch LL, Amsoil EA,

If you are changing the oil filter at every 6k interval, the regular Wix, Fram PH, Purolator Classic/Premium, ... are just fine and available at your local autopart stores. Nothing wrong with dealer sourced filter too.

What color filter do you want?

The 3.5L takes the PH7317 sized filter. Not all 3.5 Hondas have room for the diameter of the PH3593a/PH9688 filter. But, Baldwin makes a slightly longer filter if you want a bigger filter.

Paper elements work great. Where is the non emotional data(particle counts) that shows the Ultra as the best?
My Frantz with a roll of cellulose toilet paper will out filter an Ultra.

I always plan to change the filter every time I change the oil. That is kind of why I was thinking my go to Mobil 1 filter was becoming a waste at over $10 a piece not on sale.
Motorcraft makes a filter that fits and they always look good when cut apart. I am not to picky on color but that gold on the ultra can is terrible looking.

Someone would have too much time on their hands to screw around with letters and phone calls.I never heard of a problem going the OEM route during the warranty period. It's just a filter, put it on and move on.

Here's Frantz's cellulose media compared to an OEM filter. Oil was ran for 4700 miles, then a Frantz was installed without changing the oil for 200 miles, and it sampled cleaner than new on the shelf oil. Whereas most OEM filters are only good at catching microns above 20, Frantz catches everything from 2 microns and up.

An aftermarket filter kit is kind of apples to oranges if youre not looking for a bypass system. My father has an Accord that generation he just purchased, it's got an Ultra on it right now. This Accord thread thinks OEM Honda and Fram are pretty similar. And a case of a failed Fram killing a motor.

I've never had a reason to dislike Wix filters.
