The little Black & Decker Brew 'n Go coffeemaker is now on sale- cheap!- at the True Value hardware store chain. Just the thing for making up to 15 oz of coffee at a time without resorting to expen$ive coffee puck$. If your local store doesn't have them/or not on sale you can order online & pickup at store free. The unit on sale has the plastic travel mug, not the stainless steel. I own the stainless steel mug version & its mug is nothing to write home about, requres hand washing, & I'd bet the plastic clone works just as well. You can always use your own mug, only downside is that it's a little short for many 15-16 oz travel mugs.

These come with cone filter screen so you can skip buying filters if you like, or use #1 cone or cut down #2 cone filters if you prefer.

Oh yeah- the price? On sale for $9.99.

Sounds like a good idea....can't hurt. I usually fill up my "12 cup pot" full of white distilled viegar, run that through about half way, then unplug the coffee pot, let it sit for a good 2 hours, then plug it back in, and let it finish the vinegar run.

Then I'll throw 3 pot-fulls of clean, refrigerator-filtered water through it

I also keep my ground Great value coffee in the fridge :P

I've always had good luck with the cheap drip coffee makers

But I'm a "light" coffee drinker....probably don't make it the way it's "supposed" to be made

Typically, brew 6 cup, with 2 "coffee scoops" of ground coffee....though my brother tells me I should be using 3 scoops...basically "doubling" the scoops to cups ratio or something...I don't know though lol....tastes OK to me. He worked at Panera Bread though, so he "knows" his coffee

We have a Mr. Coffee in my area at work that is older than dirt. We use undyed filters with it, there is a water filter in the breakroom, and we grind our own beans. Wonderful coffee, rich and fully flavored.

Maybe the OP needs to quit washing the Mr Coffee so much, we only clean ours out when it needs it.

Good point....I'd never spend more than 50$ on a coffee pot

As cool as the "BUNN" coffee maker looks....lol. I've used Regal, Mr. Coffee, Black and Decker, etc....they all work the same.

But yea, sounds like the op is just cleaning it waaaaaaayyyy too much.

Perhaps get filtered or bottled water to "change it up" - make sure you use cold water....not warm or hot water...it's fresher that way too....cause the Hot/Warm is grabbing stale water from the water heater tank......ICK :P

I soak mine with vinegar once a month or less.....sometimes once every 2 months....and I'm a cheap coffee drinkers.....either store brand....or "Master Chef" or whatever it's called :P usually arabica beans, or columbian...

I have a Keurig and a "mr. coffee" style Kitchen Aid.

I use the Keurig most often, for convenience. However, I like the taste of coffee from the big Kitchen Aid unit much more. In fact, I prefer mr. coffee type machines above all else. Especially if the coffee was filtered with a paper filter and has had time to mellow and "heat up" in the pot for about 15 minutes.

I'm not crazy about percolators, french press' or other goofy contraptions or boutique brands.

Trouble with the Keurig is it only makes one cup at a time. The coffee I have seen for sale with it is sometimes $25/lb- yikes!!
The Technivorm is the best drip coffeemaker according to the experts at the SCCA, mostly because of temp-195F.

I have 5 vacuum coffee makers (3 antiques)2 of them the Bodum brand. They make some of the most delicious coffee I have had.I also have 3 French presses,an Aeropress, a Solis grinder, a Mazzer Mini grinder and a Rancilio Silvia espresso machine.

I roast my own coffee in a dedicated bbq and sell it to my customers. Green coffee lasts about a year on the shelf. Roasted coffee lasts 2 weeks in a sealed container in the cupboard. Ground coffee lasts 10 minutes, and brewed coffee lasts 15 minutes in vacuum pot.

I guess you could call me a coffeegeek.

Hows that for a threadstopper?

I wouldn't get a Mr Coffee if you paid me. The current models brew slow cold coffee. I would suggest the Bunn-o-Matic or a older Braun Flavor Select-not made anymore but can be found used.

Bunn is one of the best pourover commercial units, the Mr Coffee is the worst consumer model. If you are happy with it then, go for it, I wish I was that easily satisfied.

Fresh coffee right out of the roaster is best and it is possible to source but you might have to do some work to get it, and it is so worth it. I find myself drinking less coffee as it satisfies my craving for that perfect cup.
Once you find a roaster and have regular fresh coffee every 2 weeks or so buy yourself an Aerobie Aeropress. I can honestly say I rarely drink coffee black but this machine will make you a convert.
For the ultimate buy an espresso machine and very good grinder and you can pass it down to your kids.

Bunn GRX. $100 at China Mart. Simple fast tasty coffee. For small batches I have a Melitta 4 cup cone drip. Makes great coffee but sooooo slow.

Coffee fast - Bunn.

Coffee right - french press.

We've got 'em both.

A good press doesn't break, uses no electricity, and takes 4-6 minutes (not including heating the water).

The Bunn brews a decent cup of coffee in 3 minutes flat, but the trick is using the correct filters and finer grind.

Just stay away from the Bunn Velocity Brew model. I had 3 ( 2 warranty replacements from Bunn) in about 7 months, and finally demanded they replace it with a standard model that holds the water warm in the back, and a thermal carafe. It's worked for 6 months now.

I'm a big fan of European made drip model such as Krup, Melitta, Braun and Philips.

I'm using a circa 1995 Philips Cafe Roma, with great satisfaction.

Glass kettle must be German schott or bust.

I also stocked (I'm a frequent thrift store shopper) and recently bought a Philips Cafe Verona(sp?) same shape as my Cafe Roma (made in Holland by Philips) but instead, it runs on a stainless steel thermokettle.

I also have a few Melitta percolator style drip setup and I collect and use them when I have the time to sit down and enjoy a cup of joe. It's a little bit lighter in taste than those European drip machines I use but nevertheless, it's still quite satisfactory.

I'd stay away from China made Mr. Coffee, Blk and Dekker and such. I had poor if not inconsistent results from them in the past.

Q.

Love our Cuisinart with the cone type filters and grind my beans the night before on workdays since I get up pretty early. I grind them fresh on the weekend, but not noticeably better in my opinion. I've seen it on sale as low as $59, but usually $79 - $99.

The cone style seems to make better coffee than the basket style that spreads the coffee a little thinner.

I like strong coffee and for my taste the best cup of coffee is actually a cup of cappuccino with double shot espresso.

I paid around $200-250 for my espresso/cappuccino machine about 5-6 years ago, each cup costs me about 40-50 cents which is about $2 less than Starbucks and tasted much better. So the machine paid for itself in less than 6 months.

I second that; the aero press does make an excellent strong and incredibly tasty cup (even if you use about half the amt of grounds they advise in the manual).

seriously, if you haven't gotten a new coffee machine yet, look into this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AeroPress
