Recomendations.

I've been lurking for a while (well except for when that was
cut off) and decided to join because I need maximum life from
by vehicles. (95 Crown Vic P71 & 95 S10 TUTU Reg Cab 5sp) So
I am looking for advice on the oil in the Vic. Anybody who
knows the 4.6 knows the early models (91-95) had bad valve
stem seals and mine are leaky. I once ran MC 5w20 and in a
month it had consumed 3qts

so after that I started
using Syntec Blend 15w40 with a bottle of stop leak every
2 or so changes and the oil pretty much stays put. However
I want the best bang for the buck protection in her while
also helping my engine not burn so much oil. I will be
changing oil in my S10 this weekend (Havoline 5w30 & Wix
Filter) and maybe the Vic and would like opinions on oil
or oil and additives that will keep oil consumption in
check. Thanks.

My friend, you may have answered your own question here.

It sounds like the 15-40 Syntec blend has been working
just fine for you. You didn't mention how many miles
you had on the Vic, but assuming it's age, it's probably
getting up there in miles, and the thicker 15-40 seems
to be doing a good job.

150k on what I am assuming is the original engine. Another
question I had was here in Oklahoma about the coldest we see
in the winter is 15 to 20 degrees F is 15w40 ok in the
winter months or would maybe a 10w40 be better for our mild
winters.

10W-40 would be a good option. What about Castrol High Mileage?

I've seen Castrol High Mileage and wondered if there was
really something to it of if it was just marketing hype?

Try Castrol Syntec 5W50...properly thick for your application and flows well when cold.

I freezer tested it and it swilled about in the bottle very nicely.

Since you have bad valve stem seals. I would recommend 10w30 of your favorite SM conventional oil.

The more I read the less I am concerned about the oil.
However I don't see much information about stop leak
additives I know they help with oil consumption but do
they affect the oil in any way, is it good, bad, or no
difference? Just curious about what I am putting into my
engine.

You are more than likely not doing any harm. But I would not use money on this. All you are doing is just doing is thicken your oil. I would try an auto-rx just clean your engine a little bit. But what you have is an know valve stem problem. So don't expect too much. But the benefit you have you should see increased compression. You will clear out any grime you have built up in there. Your seal's will be more pliable. Then when you get a new valve job your mechanic will be dazzled by how clean your engine is.
