recent Subaru engines with timing chains

I will take a belt over a chain any day on these engines, they are very easy to swap. The belt and closed deck are an ideal combination, oh wait the EJ22 had both those things and hydraulic lash adjusters and they let it go. They threw the baby out with the bath water.
Yes…. That was a good motor that could be romped all day long. TB replacement my first time was 4.5 hours on it, and 2.5 the second time, and 3.5 the third time with the water pump and oil pump reseal added in. That was the last engine I was comfortable doing the TB on, though from what I read the Volvo 2.4 was pretty approachable for the DIY guy.

Some are very easy, the ones on a VW2.0 slow can be done (once you are familiar with it and have air/power tools and tensioner tool in just over an hour from hood opening. An Audi V8 with a belt is easy enough with chains an absolute horror trip.

This looks much worst than it is.
