Received Mag-Hytecs for Both Axles

The front axle is a Dana 60 and the cover adds an additional 2 quarts (5 total). The rear axle is a Sterling 10.5" and the cover adds an additional 2.5 quarts (6 quarts total). Each cover also has a threaded boss for a temperature sending unit (I will be installing ISS PRO EV2 temperature gauges at the same time as well as a rear OEM stabilizer bar).

For the cost/features ratio, I think Mag-Hytecs are the highest quality covers available on the market today. Enjoy!

Those are some beefy-looking covers! Those fins should help shed heat, along with the extra fluid capacity for heat transfer and extending service intervals/being more tolerant of being worked hard.
 
I love Mag Hytec covers. I have one of their rear diff covers on my Ranger, and I bought (but haven't installed yet) one of their transmission pans for my Bronco. I also plan on eventually getting their rear diff cover for the Bronco too.

No; the front is specified as 75W-90, but I am taking Pablo's advice on the 75W-110 (and I ran it in my 2010 FX4 with great results). SAE J-306 changed some time in the not-too-long ago past and 75W-110 is what 75W-90 used to be before the specification changed (I am taking this from memory from a post that Pablo made some time ago).
 
Nice! been thinking about getting one of these for my 2010 f150...Well worth it? and id like to try 75w-110 in front as well if it worked out well for ya. You just ordered them from their site right?
 
Those covers are awesome!! I am partial to the ones that have the main cap preload bolts on them, but for a truck those can't be beat.

Do they make a transmission pan for your truck also?

I should have pulled them from my 2010 before I traded it, but in the mix of things...

No, I bought the F250 covers from Wicked Wolf RC on ebay. He had the cheapest prices at the time. If memory serves, I bought the one for my 2010 from Autoplicity, who was about 20% cheaper than anyone else at the time with free shipping and no tax.
 
Very nice. I'd love to have a set of these for my truck, but I just can't justify the cost since it's 10 years old now and I don't put that many miles on it.

Man thats tough....why cant they all have drain plugs....That oem pan plug is a nice option

I recently got a Mag pan for my 68RFE in my Ram 3500. Nice heavy and beefy. I mostly got it because it had a drain plug, the stock OEM one does not.

You're putting a temp gauge on the front axle? I can't imagine much goes on up there for most people. A drain plug is nice but that's a lot of bread for a drain plug and dipstick.

My 4x4 gets used as a 4x4 with regularity especially in the winter in CO/WY. While probably not a necessity, I wanted to see the temps--thus the gauge.
 
The extra fluid would seem counter productive. It's probably impossible to get the normal fill hot in a part time system. Did you have a gauge on the F150?

It depends on your definition of "part time"--mine has seen hundreds of miles at a time. I had a rear axle gauge on the F-150, but not the front.
 
I guess we'll know soon. I've driven around for a couple hours on forest roads in 4x4 and the front was barely warm to the touch. It was a low speeds but it also wasn't anywhere near freezing outside.

When considering differential gear oil lubrication in terms of system/components longevity, one's general experience with a desired engine oil's operating temperature and operating viscosity may not apply.

Unlike differential gears (that mostly operates in boundary lubrication regimes ),a roller bearing would like operating in EHD and/or full film HDL , which I would hazard a guess at a requirement for a gear oil operating viscosity range of 70 to 100 cSt at a road speed of 60/70 mph.At lower road speeds, it'll require even higher oil viscosity for similar regimes.

Due to its increased surface roughness and sliding motion , a (hypoid) gear would require a far higher operating oil viscosity to achieve similar lubrication regimes, when comparing against roller bearing in a differential.

In the context of OP, the increased oil sump capacity would not result in 'excessively too thick' operating viscosity for the system. Instead , I envisage prolonged OCI and components longevity.

IIRC, your F150 front differential is spec'ed at 80W90.

80W90 is typically an AGMA 4EP/ ISO 150 classification gear oils of KV@40C of 135 to 165 cSt.

The Severe Duty 75W110 has a KV@40C of 146.6 cSt and a higher VI of 171.

As an AGMA 4EP / ISO 150 gear oils ,75W110 is 'equivalent' to 80W90 , albeit synthetics.

Typical 75W90 of KV@40C 10X is not.

Just my interpretations.
