Rebuilt 1977 Ariens Snow-Thrower

Finished rebuilding my 1977 Ariens Snow-Thrower.

* New 4 bronze bushings & 10 ball bearings
* New B&S engine. (was 7HP, now approx 8HP)
* New thicker (1/4") & longer skids
* New axle, carrier, and pinion shafts
* Assembled a repair kit for future repairs
* Thorough paste wax

One improvement I was glad to do -
Replace the 'axle' bushings with ball bearings.
Same hole pattern and I used the same flanges as on the fan shaft.

I had to give up the throttle control cable lever and now use control on engine.

The engine I installed was a perfect swap.
Everything lined up and matched.
Just sold the old engine for $70.00

It's the USS Ariens.

It 'was' Orange.

Then it was Flat Black.

Then it was Glossy Black.

Now it's Gray.
Gray is a working mans color.
Gray shows it was repaired & painted at home.
My Father painted stuff 'gray'.
Now I do.

i sold a late 80's ariens just like that to a friend. the rear deck and frame around the gearbox was shot, whenever in reverse under a load like going up hill the chain would jump the spocket because all the thin gauge stamped steel was flexing, cracking, and weak. did you have to do any metal repair on yours?
i also see you got the bronze metal gear rotating the shoot, my ariens had a stupid plastic worm held in place by a plastic retainer that would just bend when the shoot iced up.

Larry, that beast is BEAUTIFUL!! Great job. It's got to be awesome with that OHV Briggs on there. Great power and less fuel guzzling.

I could use that iron monster out here in West Falls.

I have the same snowblower still going strong - one thing I need to do is put pneumatic tires on mine like what you have - mine has hard plastic tires and are worn bald...where did you get your rims/tires for the funny 3-bolt pattern?

The 'Rims' are original.
The 'Tires' (with inner tubes) are replacements.
