So I saw a few drips under my car at Walmart I wasn't sure if it was from me so when I got home i put a piece of cardboard under the Saturn and sure enough it is dripping slightly. Only when its not running. Would an additive help? I don't want to fix it correctly that just doesn't sound fun. Let me know what you guys think

Less time shopping at wal mart, more time saving for a new car or proper repair. I wouldnt count on any additive to do much for you.

It stinks, but it is what it is.

Otherwise, if that is where your oil loss is going (not through the cat converter), then you may just want to live with it, as terrible environmentally as that is (its like pooping in your drinking water well).

Could also be your oil pan up in the bellhousing area.

When you do your ring job and clutch you can do this too.

Aside from the engine, you like this car, yes?

Is there a reason you need to have two cars? I mean, can't you just sell the car and drive your truck, or better yet sell both and drop 4 grand on a single decent car?

Personally, I think I would sell the truck. Buy a new cat 2 weeks before the Saturn needs to pass emissions, pass those, and drive that into the ground saving 200 bucks a month towards a new car.

I'm always amazed at what you can get for 5 grand if you're willing to buy something with over 80,000 miles.

I agree - based on your posts here chevyboy, it's time to throw in the towel on either the truck or the Saturn. Either that or you're making these things out to be worse than they are.

I think you have at least 2 threads per day, every day about something going wrong with one of the two.

No kidding.

It's a rear main seal leak: ALERT THE MEDIA!

Watch the oil level, and keep driving.

+1

OK . I just bought the truck it needed some minor things but runs great and has no issues. The Saturn since I've had it has always been little stuff over and over. If I was going to sell one it would the Saturn BUT I'm in no position to do that if I sell it ill just be buying another piece of [censored]. The Saturn is reliable just buckle and dime. Everything on it is almost all fixed why get rid of it now? Also a update I changed the oil and checked the oil pan bolts they were loose probably from my awful driveway so I think that was the reason. It was dripping . It was right in the corner where the rearmain is. It doesn't smoke anymore so I really think the last piston soak helped. Before it would smoke when revving hard now it doesn't . As long as I'm seeing some progress I'm not throwing in the towel.

...and you have a child. Most seem to prefer a car over a truck with wife and child.

Another way to see if you're smoking is to get on the highway or interstate for a run while at full temperature. Steady driving then WOT back and forth will reveal a smoke show.

I'm actually interested to see what may happen with the consumption rate. Changing oils frequently may keep the consumption flared up. What oil were you running when it was 1 quart every 1,400 miles?

Drips only when not running? That means the PCV is working, and keeping some neg pressure in the crankcase.
A high mileage oil can help. Not in an hour, but one or two oil changes with it. There are concentrated additives that specifically do the same [only faster]. It depends on what is leaking.

Maybe youve said it before, but why do you NEED the truck?

Is it used for work, or is it a nice to have? Do you routinely truly haul stuff?

I know Ive said it before, and Im not trying to be mean, but Id try to get my financial house in order so that you can get a reasonable, efficient and responsible vehicle (one) that you and your wife can use, and then build carefully from there. Unless the saturn issue becomes cut and dry real fast, Im afraid that youre going to put too much good money after bad, an just be in worse shape.

And unless the rear main IS the issue with your engine, then you still have an oil burner that isnt going to easily pass emissions in a sustainable way without throwing more money after it.

Hey you know get under there and report back what color RTV they sealed the pan with. Or the timing cover.

The factory used gray. Most aftermarket guys use black. Of course it can look black with oil slicks all over! Hose off with brake cleaner.

If the pan bolts were loose, I doubt the factory did that.

Mostly curious if someone was in your motor before.

Its never been opened I'm sure of it. Its not the first rime I've had cars on rough roads and the bolts get loose. I tightened them and no more leaking. The Saturn doesnt smoke at all no matter what you do. Also I haul scrap with the truck to make side money also its east and cheap to work on! The car is for the family. And works fine for that purpose. The car will ha e a new cat Monday and it is not leaking or smoking at all. And unless someone wants to donate some Money to my new car fund I will be keeping what I have. Its cheaper than a car payment. So you might as well stop trying to recommend it. Its no use

Believe me if the Saturn becomes to expensive to make sense of keeping itll go but so far I've spent 57 bucks on an o2 sensor. It hasn't been a money pit. I'm seeing progress so no sense in it going yet. And the truck cost about 100 a month in gas sometimes itll be a little more. I make a few hundred easily doing a few scrap runs a months so its making Money to. Both are doing there jobs effectively. And considering if I wanted a nice car I would need a cosigner. Which I don't have. It would cost atleast 100 probably closer to 200 a month for a car payment. So it isnt worth it
