I use Amazon as a retailer of last resort. The Prime thing is, IMHO a scam to get you to pay for elected shipping when in reality they can do 2 days to most addresses now the regular old way.
For Me, Amazon = Walmart of online.
To each his own.
For me, Amazon Prime is pretty great. Things like toilette paper, paper towels, diapers, wipes, and other household goods are all priced similarly, if not cheaper, than BJ's and Walmart. A minority of the things I buy are slightly more expensive (talking pennies, sometimes), but, for the convenience of having these things delivered to my front door, it's worth it.
I also have the Prime Music app on my phone and listen to whole albums of some of my favorite bands every time I shower - I bought a shower BT speaker 5 months ago for < $10 on Amazon. This service is "free" with Prime.
Prime's offering of shows is pretty weak, but I do watch things like Vikings, which is pretty entertaining.

As for the actual meat and potatoes: buying stuff!
I've emailed and had Amazon match no-name websites on price (I bought two Sharp AC units.)
I've had Amazon partially refund or fully refund me for products I complained were incomplete, not new, or defective, but still usable. Instead of having me return these, they offered a discount or a full refund (a previous Blackberry battery I found was a knock off. It lasted me a little while, but Amazon refunded the full amount; I found a very hard piece in a snack bar that made me wary of eating any of the rest of the half a box that remained - Amazon refunded the entire cost.)
I rarely return things that I made the mistake of buying - I know many people do this for trivial things - but when I have had to, they've treated me very well. The wife and I were sure we cancelled a Subscribe and Save, but recently received a box of diapers, tissues, and glue. The policy was clear, that we couldn't return these items, but my wife called customer service and they refunded the glue and are sending us shipping labels for the other two.
I comparison shop just about everything, but typically buy from Amazon over all others at the same price, simply because they hook me up when I have issues, even if it's past the 30 day return time.
