Hey all,

The GTP is out of storage now and it's time for the spring oil change. I have GC 0w30 in there now with a K&N filter and am switching over to Pennzoil Ultra 10w30 for the summer. Since the filter only has ~300 miles on it I'd like to reuse it. If I take off the filter to drain out the GC still in it, will it still seal correctly once reinstalled? Is the gasket on there a one use only kind of deal?

Thanks!

I wouldn't even remove it, but the gaskets aren't one time use, at least on other brands. Depending on what way it's mounted, there may be very little oil in the filter itself.

I'm changing because I put GC in right before the car was put away for the winter. I run out the full tank of fuel and then change to 10w30 for the summers.

I'd leave the current fill in the car and continue to drive it. Worry about changing it out before winter sets in.

No need to change out the oil. I'd rather have seen it stored with less than 50 miles on the oil, but it is fine for the season.

And filter gaskets are not made to be put on twice. It can be done with no bad effects, but they can cause problems with leakage. It is not recommended by the filter council. Although I'll admit to doing it once when the dealer did the first oil change on my 2009 Grand Cherokee and with filter in hand learned that they had switched the 2009 over to metric threads. The filter had to go back until they could import the correct ones.
