Raybestos=napa=delco gold?

I’m starting to piece together the next brake job on our newest car and purchased a pair of raybestos street rotors for a price I couldn’t pass up. I don’t see many threads where folks have used these, but they look decent, with pretty tight specs. It also appears that I could buy napa ultra premiums or ac delco golds for the front and possibly end up with the same thing? I’m going to try powerstop z23 pads for the first time, looks like a pad that’ll be easy on rotors. Any testimonies on these rotors and or pads? Chinese made no doubt but specs are on par with the ebc rotors I’ve been using. My element rotor experiment was very short lived but these appear to be a step up and are maybe even used in law enforcement applications.

In my experience and observation, I think that is a reasonable conclusion. In fall of 2018 I purchased Raybestos RPT rotors (changed to Element3) from RA, and it was general consensus that they were identical to one of the Napa rotor lines at the time. The latter costing more. And the same goes for the ACDelco. There's been several threads on it which included pics and also provided confirmation. As an aside, the RPTs have been great for me on a 7th gen Accord. But I suspect that the use of salt or rather lack of it here, likely a big factor. No experience with them but I was looking at one of the Power Stop lines for a possible next rotor purchase.

Thanks for that. I’m more worried as to how the rotors will hold up as to who raybestos makes them for. The wording on ac delcos and napa is slightly different. Raybestos mentions high carbon while the others don’t. The rears I received are nice looking and seem to be good quality. But, so were the elements I used that were as wobbly as rolling an egg a year later. I’ve been using ebc on two cars and I keep waiting for the shoe to drop, but they just keep on performing.
 
I'm going from memory here, but at the time the wording on the Napa rotor was also slightly different the RPT/Element. The former had slightly better 'listed' run out tolerance, iirc. Wouldn't have been enough to change my purchase choice though. When I see slight differences in description, makes me wonder if some information not updated on one or more of them. As for wobble, my rust assumption obviously wrong.

Please follow up with your results of this project. I've had such astounding results with my current EBC plain coated rotors that I prefer to "buy once, cry once" these days and will use them again without hesitation.
 
Recently went with Napa, after the advise of a friend. I think it was the highest end rotors and pads....the Adaptive One I think.

I’m with ya on ebc. I got the raybestos from Walmart.com for $50 for a pair and figured if they weren’t up to par on finish I’d send them back. I’ve got some ultimax rotors waiting to go on another car and if I laid them side by side, I don’t think anyone could tell the difference. The car in question is a 24 with electronic parking brakes and ebc is up there in cost and there just isn’t a lot of options yet. Being that the raybestos are supposedly “high carbon” and g3000 I figured they’d be close to ebc, minus the made in china thing. Will find out at some point.

You already need new brakes on a 24? How many miles do you have on the car? :eek:
 
nah the brakes are good. I just get an early start and like looking for deals. A rotor here, brake pads there. I’ll usually replace brakes and rotors every few yrs for appearance rather than being worn out. The weather here does brake parts no favors.

BPI(First Brands) is a long time Napa partner. And they also work with GM SPO. There was a time when Raybestos ruled the aftermarket - they had a contract with Kragen before the O’Reilly merger and parts houses stocked them. Not anymore. MAT Holdings supplies all the parts stores(AutoZone also sources from Bosch for Duralast Elite and some Gold SKUs).

I'm pretty sure at least some of O'Reilly's BrakeBest rotors are Raybestos?

The numbering system. AutoZone and O’Reilly uses the Bendix numbering system for their “basic” brake pads - MKD906 for example. But go with Duralast Gold or BrakeBest Select it’s DG906 or SC906. It’s like filters using the Fram, Purolator, Champ or Wix numbering.

IIRC, FMSI does have standardized numbering for pads/shoes/hardware kits. Not sure about rotors or drums.
