Rant: Used Flashlight and Amazon

Well it happened to me. Did some research and decided to order A new flashlight to use while working in my shop. Opened the box and immediately said that isn't red like in the pictures they must of made A finish on them to hide usage, nope. It was dirty and greasy and some cuts and no charging cable ***. For whatever reason I got sent A used and broken light. Found Amazon's customer service and called. Of course couldn't hardly understand the woman, what did you say about 10 times. Anyway getting another one Monday and since I cannot print A label I will need to track down somewhere that ships UPS and can print the label. Really pisse$ me off.

I assume you do not have a UPS store near you?
We have a number of them, Amazon returns you just bring to the store, scan your return QR code, drop it in a UPS supplied bag, stick the UPS printed sticker on the bag and drop it in the box near the Amazon kiosk .. dont even walk up to the counter.

Agree with your comments, but let me add this. You don't even need a UPS store. All you need is to be on a UPS route. If you request it during the ONLINE return process they will pick up your return from your front porch.

I can't imagine why anyone would call Amazon and want to speak with someone.

I'll gladly say their return policy is WAY too lenient. Regardless of the time involved every returned item should be examined and not just assumed returned for whatever reason the original buyer provided. Then tons of items get thrown back onto the shelf, then to the next buyer and this sort of thing happens repeatedly. Also a joke that the original buyer would have the nerve to send a used/damaged item back. This sort of thing ends up costing the rest of us that try doing things the decent way.

Depends on the item and the seller. I’ve bought stuff where Amazon was strictly an intermediary and the items were shipped directly by the seller in its own packaging. If Amazon warehouses and makes it part of their free shipping (minimum total order or Prime) then Amazon will also accept returns. And sometimes it was preferable when the seller offered free shipping with no or lower minimums.

I've gotten some stuff that was sold that way - shipped by Amazon on behalf of another seller. The items were fine but there were some things that were different than being sold directly by Amazon. Once I bought something that was clearly previously sold at a retail store, and the description mentioned it. Had half the store tag with the price torn off, but otherwise in new condition. Bought some movies and there might be some markings on the label, but the package had never been opened. Amazon had those movies sold directly but their price was higher.

I have had maybe one or two items where Amazon offered a full credit for future purchase without returning the item. My understanding is that returns often cost so much to process that they're not worth it to them. And sometimes they can't sell the returned item as new. But that was for something that was less than $5.
