Rant about USAA Insurance

And here I thought it was just me.

My theory is the CEO can base his compensation on the size of the company. Bigger the company, the more he makes. So the push is to grow grow grow at the expense of the members. So they open up membership from a select few officers that have been rigorously screened to everyone remotely connected or related to the military, then they advertise like they are Renewal by Anderson.
Costs have gone up and service has gone down. For auto repairs, you can use any repair shop you want, but they will only reimburse what they would pay the dregs of repair shops.

This thread has convinced me to start shopping around.

Just went through a bunch of BS with USAA with my daughter trying to cancel her renters insurance since she graduated, not living in CT and back home for now. The BOT first then at least 5 people sending us to wrong place. Shouldn’t be that difficult.

Positive? My son got some I think 30 year term life insurance from them. Maybe it’s his asthma or other but he had a hard time finding life insurance and he’s only 26. I think 5-6 places that advertise guaranteed, denied him.

The rebate check is a nice touch. When I searched other companies to compare for car insurance they were still cheapest. The couple car claims I had were no issues and quick.

My homeowners on other hand as of 1 month ago is disaster experience of not being covered. Others might be the same but after 35 years of zero claims on house they denied anything for hidden water damage. Basically phrased it like “prior existing medical”. One of my concrete fiber sideing shingles fell off in a crazy wind/rain. I went to put it back and all the wood is dry rotted gone including I think some of floor joists. IT’s in my kitchen on a 2ft cantilevered area. Basically the entire 12ft wall needs to be rebuilt, floor to ceiling/roof with new windows also. Auditor came out, lots of pictures with videos and measurements and then told pound sand.

My contractor who has dealt with USAA and every other insurance said they were always good but others doing the same thing. He was actually contacting the auditor and USAA customer service for me. Waiting on that response.

Myself and wife have term life insurance with them that expires in 10 years. It was and still is a good price IMO as compared to others I searched. I have their CC with lowest interest rate among any others when I do carry a balance for a short term.

I’ve been generally happy with them for the 35 years but my daughters hassles and the homeowners have really soured my opinion. Might need to shop around more with apples/apples comparisons.
