Ramps

Are ramps safe? I've always been afraid to work under them! When I was young in lived out in the sticks I would just center the Ranger over a ditch and then I would have plenty of room to crawl under her.
No Civic, but got Rhino Ramps on the advice of Corvette owners when I couldn't get my son's Camaro onto my steel ramps.
Mine are 12,000 GVW capacity, yellow plastic; also there is a lighter set.
Camaro's gone. Work great now for a Ford Crown Victoria, Jeep Liberty, and Ford Ranger -- all pretty heavy rigs. Only problem I had was when I splashed ATF that ran under it. Next time I used them, they slid until I got all that scrubbed off the rubber pads.

Me, '04 Civic, Rhino ramps. Work great!
That board in front of the ramp isn't really needed to clear the front bumper but it helps.

I have a '95 Integra which is pretty low to the ground and it fits on the standard black Rhino ramps (like the ones two posts above me). The front bumper just barely clears it though, it has probably less than an inch. I've been using them for about a year now.

A couple of 2 by 12 boards screwed together make for safe mini-ramps for a lot of what I do.

It's kinda tricky to get on them, but you get used to it. Use third or second gear. I use to have steel ramps but stopped using them. Tired of burning clutch, tires slipping on the ramps when wet, ramps moving out of the way, carrying the heavy things etc.
I bought a Craftsman 2 1/4 ton jack and 2 jack stands. Came in a kit for $60 at Sears. I love them. Unlike with ramps you can also do tire rotations with jack stands.

I don't know, you probably doing something wrong. My relative have old metall rams and using them to work on Lancer and a minivan, never heard any complaints, but he's very handy in general. Try Rhinos, I was sceptical at first too, when folks recomended them here, but now I'm convinced. I have jack and jackstands, and tried it too. It's much lower clearance which makes it very uncomfortable to work underneath. It's unsafe and huge PITA and waste of time. Never again I'm using jackstands. Ramps all the way, it's is faster, more convinient and easier.

I too have rhino ramps, mine must be a lighter version cause mine are black/grey, work great for low cars too but lately I have noticed that they are starting to slip when you try and drive up on them, after further review this looks to be a common issue with rhinos and their is a fix using a piece of carpet. I normally put the vehicle up on the ramps, then follow up with my floor jack or a jack stand or two, remember SAFETY FIRST!
