I guess its a personal thing. I feel safer under ramps than a jack or a jack + stands. One more vote for the grey Rhino ramps, now the only time I use my jack and stands is for suspension/brake work.

I've slipped off ramps before, and they are very hard to drive on especially with a FWD car. A jack is quick and easy and allows me to lower the car to work under the hood while it's draining.

Sounds bit like what I did to get at the drain plug and filter on my wifes 91 Accord except I wasn't as sophisticated. I just drove onto two short sections of 2x6, the extra 1.5 inch ground clearance allowed me to get my oil pan under the engine and made reaching the filter and drain plug a lot easier.
