Ram/Stellantis to announce 10 year/100.000 mile powertrain warranty for 2026 model year.

I work at a Ram dealer, and attend the daily sales meeting. Your statement is not what I would be hearing in our meeting. It would be more like our GM telling us how many times that day he's called the Stellantis rep to get pricing competitive with GM.
Factory incentives drives sales. It's that simple.
TBH, HD is a minor part of Sales. 1500 is where the volume is.
I contacted my local dealer. The salesman said “serious buyers don’t shop around on the internet”. I asked to get transferred to the sales manager and had him go out to Chevrolet’s website his response was “well s**t, thanks for bringing this to my attention”. They are now updating their website RAM and slowly going through and discounting the advertised prices of his in stock inventory by $10-13K.

Now that I have some rapport built with the manager, I’m going to roll in and point out the extended warranty of the 2026s that will be out soon and try to haggle down even more on a 2025.

My dad financed his new GC because he got it at 0% for 84 months (and I got him dealer cost on the vehicle). It's basically free money and he's paying it off using investment income, rather than dipping into his savings to buy it outright, which would remove that cash from his investment portfolio, reducing his investment cashflow.

This is the same method my friend that owns the dealership employs when they have a 0% thing going on. Why dip into his cash, which makes him money, because it's invested, when Chrysler will give him the money for free and he can pay on it using cashflow from the investments without penalty?
He's a smart man! ;) That's exactly how I bought my 08 Liberty when they offered 0% interest. I put $500 down and financed the balance. Free money, gotta love it if your credit score is good enough to qualify for it. I wish they offered it for 84 months when I bought mine, I would have been all over that deal!!!! IIRC it was only 36 months at the time for me.

10 years 100k is no an unreasonable period to warranty a car. There is no reason why a vehicle should have to be out of pocket within that time frame.

If folks really cared about "going green" we would require at least this period for warranty, bumper to bumper......I say extend it to 15.
For time eternal I've argued if we truly wanted to be "green" we'd keep stuff on the road as long as possible. Most complaining of older vehicles polluting more is disingenuous and really a push for consumerism.

Cries about lost jobs or employment are also disingenuous because we can just re-tool factories to make more, higher quality parts for whatever's on the road rather than building ENTIRE new cars. And we can employ more people to FIX the existing cars ‐‐ something AI won't be able to do for awhile

Interesting - I always started my serious car shopping on the internet to avoid the know it alls at the lot …

I bought our now 8 year old RAM entirely online/ over the phone. Local dealers were playing their games, and I guess didn't think I was a serious buyer, since I showed up to look at their trucks while driving my then 20 year old 4Runner. So I expanded my search to dealers across the USA. I eventually went with a high-volume dealer known for their deals. The entire transaction was handled without setting foot in the Dealership. They picked me up at the airport, there were no surprises once we got to the Dealer, and I started the long drive home in a new truck.

I also used the 0% financing. Now I know that someone is going to say I paid more for that 0% financing. It was an incentive offered by FCA at the time, and I got the best OTD price offered by any dealer in the country, at least the Dealers who responded to my inquiry, of which there were hundreds.

A few weeks later I went to the local RAM dealer, to pick up an OE accessory, and ran into the sales kid who had discounted me based on his perception of me weeks earlier. He saw the loaded Dually, and asked why I hadn't bought from him? I said you never bothered to contact me back with the info I requested...

Even better was going to that Dealer in my Viper a few weeks after that, to pick up an OE oil filter. The kid seemed stunned and said you never mentioned you had one of those. I said, you never asked...

Bottom line: If you are in sales, be careful about judging potential customers.

Guessing you purchased from Dave Smith.

I eternally agree

“Keep ‘em alive!” Is my mantra.

But automakers wanna sell you new cars, so there’s that. Heck, before Toyota changed the auto world, American car companies changed their cars’ sheetmetal every 2 years or so.

There are only two reasons to purchase a new truck: 1) it’s used for work and you can write most of it off, or 2) you have money to burn. The new warranty is a false leader….unless you’re going to use it for 10 yrs.

I agree. I will never buy another truck at todays prices. A new truck today costs more than my house (with acreage) in 2012. That is insanity...and stupidity.

I feel bad for the young people. They will never own anything. 50-year mortgages and 10-year car loans will be the norm if things don't change.

While I concur that truck prices are elevated, labeling the purchase of one as foolish is merely a subjective opinion. As a member of the “young people” demographic, at least I believe so, we do not have a 50-year mortgage, a 10-year vehicle loan, or lack assets as you implied. I purchased a new truck because I wanted it and we are blessed to have the financial means to do so. Your assertion appears to be a judgment of others based on your personal perspective.

Took a second look at this offer from Stellantis. Three reasons come to mind why Stellantis is offering this. One can decided if any of the below reasons are why.

(1) Stellantis believes deeply in the powertrains they are selling and there is little to no risk to Stellantis by offering the 10 year/ 100k miles powertrain warranty

(2) Stellantis study groups identified a perception in the quality of their vehicles as being less than other competitors, the 10 year/ 100k miles powertrain warranty is to counter consumers' perception of Stellantis vehicles

(3) Stellantis is at risk of excessive inventories, and needs to find a way to increase sales/ take sales away from other competitors

Out of curiosity, I put in my trucks info at a Carmax closest to me. Their offer, without seeing the truck, was just about what I paid for it, just over 8 years ago.

Vehicles don't depreciate like they used to, I'd make the argument it doesn't make sense to buy used. I see cars and trucks with 100k on them going for over 50% of new. I'd rather use up the first half of it's life than the second half.

Reason 3: I need to seat 6 people with cargo and I’m not buying a 2nd minivan.
