quick question

hey guys i have a question about a certain engine. my girlfriend is looking at a 97 chevy malibu it has the 3.1L and i was just thought i would run this by the experts. i just wanted to get your guys feedback and any info yall have about this engine thanks for the info guys

The intake manifold gaskets often leak.

Beyond that, its a pretty solid engine.

At one point GM had a problem with manifold gasket leaks on the 3100-3800 series engines- what I familiar with anyway.

If you're not ready to open your wallet to a grand or more to make the 3100 reliable, I'd RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN away from this car. Look at the UOA section - every single one shows coolant in the oil from the lower intake gaskets.

Other then that, they're great!

My friends 2000 Pontiac just let go Wed. night. Had to help him get it to a garage.

Look for older Malibus with the 2.2L Ecotec. They are a solid, cheap combos.
