Quick Lube horror...

They drained the trans and added 7q to the sump.

well, got the oil changed Sunday at EZ Lube. Need some help and guidance with the following.

Since they had 0W-40 Mobil One.

Car ran fine to the place. After the change they pull car out. I get in restart the car and being the anal person I am I can tell right away the idle is very rough. Put the car in gear and that felt 'off' also. Rpms run up car doesnt shift then finally goes into gear. Strange. Head home which is 3-4 miles. Car runs like [censored]. Ran vag com no faults in transmission, 2 faults ECU low battery and egt sensor short to ground. Hummmmm.
Call up DWP(Mr Dave Parker)and he says he heard something like this awhile ago. THat a place thought they were draining the oil, actually drained the transmission. Hummmm, they did seem to take awhile under the car?? He said they filled up the oil with another 7 quarts. Car ran like [censored] just like mine. Nooooo could not be right??? Well I go out tonight and checked the oil level and,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, sure enough it not only covers the orange portion at the bottom of the stick but another 2 inches of the metal stick itself!
So, how do I tell the place they messed up? ALso I dont want to drive the car, I guess I would need to flat bed to GMG maybe and have them flush fill the transmission and do I ask EZ luabe to pick up a portion of the cost? Or if there happens to be damage? There was a little bit of white smoke coming from the exhaust tips? Or most likely the car is OK? Like I said car was driven about 3-4 miles after the change.
 
Follow-up...

The mgr stated EZlube would cover all repairs. I will work out details and such.
His recommendations were, that I take it somewhere to an Audi tech, repair the damages if any and bring all paperwork to EZ LUBE. EZLube would cover the towing, repairs and the costs of the service done at EZlube(oil Change).

Oh well, the guy is the same person who has done changes and flushes on our honda's and always does a good job. But not with the Audi : (..
I guess this is not the first time that this mistake has happened, other places have done the same thing.
Drain the trnany thinking its the motor oil, then put another 7 quarts on top of the oil already in car! ouch. THen the transmission just has some fluid residual in the transmission.
Well GMG will be on the job Friday, and we will see whats up. I hope nothing major.
 
I would call it more of a huge mistake than a horror story. At least the manager was going to comp him for what they did plus pay for any work or damages that needs to be done. I call that admitting your mistakes and stepping up to the plate and taking care of it.

And they did admit their error and are standing behind their MISTAKE.

Don't lump every one in the same pot. Most people get their vehicles serviced at quick lube places and their vehicles go down the road just like yours and mine.

It's a huge mistake at this point, but if driving 4 miles without any transmission fluid and the engine sump stuffed with 7 extra quarts of oil causes any longterm problems, then it's going to be a horror story. Stay tuned~

It's noteworthy to add that deeper in the thread is another poster telling us that an Audi dealer made the same mistake with his car.
 
I believe certain Audi/VW transmission fluid is yellow which may have made it less obvious that they drained the transmission. In my two years working at a VIOC quick-lube I have never seen this happen, but I have heard of it happening at other locations.
 
I knew a guy who was trying to impress his g/f with his mechanic skills and offered to change oil on her Passat. He did the exact same thing as described above - no oil in the transmission, and twice as much oil in the engine.

I just never thought a shop that specializes in maintenance would do something like this, too.
 
This is why Subaru changed their differential drain plugs from the same size to a totally different (went to a weird hex AND labeled it) because plenty of people where draining the differential then over filling the engine.

It happened to a point that they had to reduce the chance of it happening!

That sucks and it's not the damage you will notice now that is important it's the damage you may see 100k down the road that is important. At least the manager is doing what he can to make you happy. You can't really expect a minimum wage quick lube tech to be the sharpest knife in the drawer. If he were at an actual shop hopefully there would have been someone there that knew what they were doing to help him out when they say him scratching his head thinking something wasn't right. At a quick lube all he's got is other minimum wage techs to ask questions.

A very small percentage do a good job. But a majority are a JOKE, like a previous poster said you can't expect too much from a minimun wage worker that is a 18year old kid(notbashin the youth) with very little training. And vw/audi transmission color is yellow?
 
Most of them make more than min wage.

And again thank you for not lumping everyone into the same pot...

Having the manager of a quick lube place say they will take care of it, and actually getting the corporate entity that owns the quick lube place to pay up are 2 different things. Good luck.
 
If I'm not mistaken, the last time I was under my wife's Honda van, the cast aluminum oil pan has the words "Engine Oil" (or something similar" cast in by the drain plug and a similar notification by the transmission drain plug.

I wonder how much carnage this simple (and likely free to the Mfgr.) detail has saved. I change oil on a number of different vehicles for a number of different people, so I'm not sure if it was the Honda, but in any case, it's a nice feature to have on a vehicle for just this reason.

There are many QL places I have gone that I trust my car to. However, I've had enough bad experiences at others to bring the question to mind "Why trust my car to someone who might be less knowledgeable and conscientious than I am?" They do provide a service to millions of motorist and even if there is a .1% "issue" rate, that is a lot of cars. I don't see any posts on the 99.9% success rate, but a lot of hyperbole on the .1% failure.

Tonight on Investigative Reports we bring our car to a QL and they change the oil in a timely and professional fashion; film @ 11.....
