I just had a quick question about oil filters. I have a 2009 Honda CR-V. My next change I am doing 5 qts Castrol Syntec and a Purolator Pureone PL14610.
The change after I am going to do 5 qts Mobil1 and a Mobil1 EP M1-110.

I was just wondering, which is a better filter?

Both are great choices. I have taken the advice of many from this forum and have used P1 for years.

IMHO, Purolator is better. It's not because they are better build, they are BOTH excellent and well build, but the M1s are 2x more expensive. The Purolators are a excellent filter and an excellent price.

The Bosch Distance Plus is a good filter and it's the same price as the M1. As far as oil goes, I would ditch the Syntec and try Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra instead.

Yeah, that is why I went with P1 first.

Only reason I got the Mobil1 EP was it came ti the AdvanceAuto Parts special with the Mobil1. I was just wondering which was a better filter. I'll probably stick with the P1 after this unless I get the special again.

That's why I was switching to the Mobil1. It is what Honda uses for their synthetic so that's what I'm going to change to. I had the 5qts of syntec left that I had got from a special before so I'm just going to use it next then switch to the Mobil1. I was going to go with Ultra next but when I found out that the Mobil1 was what Honda uses for synthetic I thought I would at least use it for now while I was under warranty. And that it is a good oil and I got a great deal. lol

Based on price alone (M1 is about double the cost of a P1)....the P1 would be my choice. P1 is the "best bang for the buck". IMO, P1 is a good 7,500 +/- OCI filter.

But...if your using Mobil 1EP with 1 year OCI and doing 12K+ a year...the M1 would be my choice.

Purolator is the better filter IMO too, cheaper, better efficiency rating and capable of long OCI like the M1.

does a better overall job for less bread!

i wasn't impressed with the M1's i used to run.

Better efficiency rating?? You find me where the efficiency rating the filter is and I'll listen. That 99.9% @ 20 microns is a marketing facade. They may have one filter that actually does that, but I am amazed how many people have fallen for the myth...read the fine print. Puro's are good filters, just like most of them, they are about the same. M1 has synthetic media and will last longer, the Puro would be fine for shorter (5K) intervals. Very few filters filter 99.9% of 20 micron junk. Just slick marketing. Please read the fine print on the side of the box.

Check out RiverRats tests on all the most popular filters.....

Right. The Purolator is a good filter. I think the M1 may be better. I get the $38 5 quarts of M1 EP and M1 filter deals at AZ,so it minimizes the cost.

AND.....the media in the M1 is NOT synthetic,,it's a mix, and please explain "last longer" any data tests with partical counts you can post???

Well lets just say a the Donaldson ELF7947 used on Detroit Diesels (one of the best filters on the market) do have 99% @ 15 microns, it is about $65 and the wix Equivalent that is even close is 97% @ 32 microns. These are fairly large filters 6.22" length and 4.31" around. This is a top of the line filter If you could buy a Purolator for say $7 and get 99.9% @ 20 are people just flat out stupid for buying the Donaldson??? Something is fishy.

yes i agree a Donaldson is a good filter but....don't you think some of that $65 is some mark up? maybe allot? i do because i can and do get top of the line filters for allot less then that $30-40.

How does the Legacy like the HM? it's a good oil!

I'm sure there is mark up. The Puro as well. They probably make it for under a buck. What set me off was not you. The OP uses the same size filters I do ie. the PL14610 and equivalent M1-110 etc. Purolator One filters in this size are 99.9 @ 40 Microns. I bought that filter once not knowing that because they have 99.9@20 mu. on all their boxes and felt that I was ripped off in a sense. Most people believe ALL PurolatorOne filters are that efficient and THEY ARE WRONG! I Think filtration is very important as I'm sure you do, I now use Wix filters because they publish their data and Beta Ratio. Wix 51356 is the equivalent (in size)to the filters talked about in this post, it is markedly better (at least by the #'s). Mobil 1 filters don't supply their efficiency ratings either except that they use a "syn. blended media" who knows if it is worth the money??

Better for the money or better period?

Exactly, better for your wallet or better overall. The Mobil is better for a longer OCI because of the material and also it holds twice as much junk. I can usually get Mobil EP and a Mobil filter for about $35-$33 at OReillys.

But Donaldson is the same way,,i checked a few P/N's of my applications and yes wile some were good some were not!,,50% @ 40.

Well since I obviously already bought both of them and I know the prices of them I can tell which is better for the money. I wanted to know which was a higher quality filter.
