The truck is due for a transmission fluid change. I thought of doing it myself, but I hate working in my parking lot and it has been raining a lot in the afternoons. So today I called up my favorite local shop, a small Napa place that does excellent work and I asked about their synthetic transmission fluid service. They said they use BG synthetic ATF...it's a "one ATF fits all" like Mobil 1 from the looks of things. Does anyone know anything about this stuff? Will my 5R44E be happy with it? Ford's stance is Mercon V only...my local dealer is okay and I don't mind dealing with them too much, but the Napa shop is better.

I guess I shouldn't be too worried...all kinds of BG cleaners and [censored] were run through my Explorer's old 4R55E and it never had a problem...I care a little more about the Ranger though.

If BG lists it as compatable for use in Mercon applications I wouldnot hesitate to use it. Wolfhead synthetic ATF is a Universal and a lot of shops use it by the 55gal. drum since it works so well in so many applications and is priced between say Mobil 1 ATF and Dino ATF.

I would not worry about the solvent flush and seal conditioners even many Toyota dealerships do this type of service and have not had any issues. In fact if the transmission has not been serviced regularly I actualy think that the machine flush's with solvent and seal conditioners are a plus! The only thing that is better is AUto-Rx and that takes 1000 miles to work and you still have to flush it. I have never had a transmission product like PB Blaster Trans-Tune or Valvoline Transmission Flush and COnditioner or Transmetic cause any issues in a transmission at all. The only reason I stoped useing those types of products is because I now use Auto-Rx or LC20 when I need to clean a trans prior to flushing. While I am not a huge fan of BG products it is mostly because they sell mostly to garages and those places overly mark up BG's products so I have not used them myself! I do know plenty of people though tht have used them at the dealership level and never had any problems.

I guess with it in such wide use I don't really need to worry. I trust this shop too, they are known as one of the best in the area, and I really don't think they would use it if it caused problems.
