question on whats what in a filter

i have been keeping all my old oil filters with the intentions of cutting them open. i have royal purple filters motorcraft napa gold ect. started cutting them open and not sure what what .. my biggest question is ive heard motorcraft has a thread end bypass and most other have a dome end bypass not sure how to tell if they do or dont. and where and what does the anti drainback valve look like.. when i get all these cut open i will post pics. so far cut open one motorcraft and one royal purple. thanks in advance

Rather than explain all the parts, take a look at following oil filter studies/dissections for a general overview of what you are looking at, features etc.

You mostly list higher end filters. Don't be surprised if they all have thread end bypasses.

This link should take you to a photo break down of what is inside the WIX (same as Napa Gold) filter.
They explain what each part is....showing what it looks like and where it is in the filter.

There are other sites that do this.....this is just one that I know of.
