Greetings,

I am preparing to change the fluids in the front and rear differentials and transfer case of my 2006 Toyota Tundra 4WD. What are the differences between SVG (Severe Gear), FGR (Long Life), and ASL Gear Lubes? All three are available in the viscosity range and type (GL-5) I need. I was leaning towards the SVG (Severe Gear), but thought I would ask what the recommendations of the group are within the Amsoil line....

By ASL, I assume that's a typo and you mean the AGL, (80W-90).
AGL is a bit older formula than the Severe Gear (75W-90/110/140) line up, but is closer to the FGR (75W-90) and FGO (80W-140) in formula, but as you can see slightly different viscosity.

The Severe Gear oils have the strongest base oils with the most esters, and highest additive pack.

While I don't know, nor would/should I give away the formulas, I can speculate by the cost and the properties - take a look: Amsoil Gear Oils

The better cold flow says a lot for the Severe Gear Oils.

I just use Severe Gear in everything that takes a GL5, for the small cost difference, the specs seem like it's worth it.

Well, I've gone ahead and ordered 8 quarts of the Severe Gear 75W-90...The truck only has 5,000 miles on it, but I wanted to go ahead and change the original fill early. Should be getting it in about 7-10 days.

I had mine in like 5 days, very quick service.
I also bought the Amsoil pump, which made things easier, but if you have something else, that's fine too.

I will be doing the transmission and transfer case soon, even though I had them done at JL this fall...(what was i thinking?)

I just went on the Amsoil site and ordered directly....I also ordered the bottle pump, and also grease for the lubrication joints on the propeller shaft - several points there that need lubricating....

Woops....I should have ordered from the site sponsors, sorry about that...However, I do intend to place another order in a couple of months, I have some other vehicles I need to perform maintenance on, plus, I am anxious to try out those new engine oil filters I keep hearing about....
