Hi Guys,

I was looking at a local Kijiji ad in Toronto for used router bits.

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-tools-power-tools-48-Router-Bits-1-2-W0QQAdIdZ572590556

This guys got 48 bits and he's looking for an average of price of $10 a bit. I emailed him regarding the panel bits. He's saying that some of his bits are made by Grizzly costing close to $90 new.

I've got an ok set of chinese bits with a 1/2 inch shank and some craftsman 1/4 shank bits, so I don't need most of what he has.

Have a look at his posting and let me know what you'd pay for those panelling bits. I see the cheap Chinese set of three paneling bits from HF for $60 before coupons.

I'm not a cabinet maker, but if I can get a better set of quality bits for a similar price then I'd rather do that.

Regards, JC.

I've been woodworking fro many years. I'd stay away from the Harbor freight bits. Even if you're only going to use it for one project.

I don't know what the non-green bits are but if they're whiteside, I'd negotiate for those. Non green bits could also come in the cheap chinese variety. They don't last.

If you don't do much routing, I'd recommend you buy the bits you need when you need them, especially in the exact profile you need. I don't buy profiles I don't need unless they're common bits like chamfer, round over or coves. Those get used often.

When you buy panel raising or rail and stile bits, you're locked into a specific profile. unless you buy a variety of profiles, and as you know, they're not cheap.

I'd pass on that offer. Not a good deal IMHO.

Red ones are probably Freud
Yellow ones may be Woodtek or Viper
Orange ones may be CMT

I have no qualms about buying Whiteside freud, CMT. Remember that you can usually get 20% discount on a regular basis for whiteside bits. Not a fan of Viper bits.

PS, not affiliated with Whiteside. Just a happy user.

I worked in a cabinet shop years ago as in 20/30 yrs., we used Amanna bits exclusively. I also owned my own wood working business and used most any bit out there, Chinese or otherwise. After the first sharpening I never could tell the difference. Even the cheap bits held up when used on hardwoods, even used them on Corian with no issues.

CMT is my favorite blade and bit manufacturer. They've got triple chip blades that cut so cleanly the profiles are razor sharp and the cut edge of the stock will cut skin.
Freud is average and is more of a consumer grade type blade/bit. CMT makes some pretty amazing blades. I've hot 2 4 star general blades. They are the most used rip blade I've ever owned. I bought the second for when the first was being sharpened. In 10 years our shop table saw has needed sharpening twice.
CMT is the best money can buy.
