Ever time I pass the paper shredder, I think of your posts mentioning that some commerical filters are shredded newspaper. Any particular advantage to using toilet paper rather than convenience?

Hi,
The newspaper filters are the large diesel engine filters such as Cummins Fleetguard and Luberfiner. I have seen elements for these filters made of cotton. Wix and a few others make elements for these large filters.
My large filter is a Cummins Fleetguard converted to take either two rolls of paper towels and three rolls of TP or two rolls of paper towels. This filter will out perform any filter on the market because of its size and the depth of the paper towels and TP. I am dropping the big filters except the two paper towel model. It is easy to roll two rolls of paper towels together to make a 7 1/2" by 11" element but rolling three rolls of TP together is a chore. The two roll model will be superior for fuel or lube oil.
I have seen the newspaper elements at O'Reilly's for about $10.00. It's a good economical element but I doubt that it could compete with papeer towels at cleaning. Nothing can beat TP. There is a lot of paper dust in shredded newspapers. They have a secondary filter which has a porforated center core with a synthetic cloth wrapped around it.I put a hydraulic sintered bronze filter at the outlet in case I generated some paper fibers that might enter the oil system. Paper fibers can't get thru a 25 micron hydraulic filter.
On an engine at work I used a Perma-Cool remote mount with a Toyota full flow filter.
I didn't invent anything, I simply converted the housing to take paper towels. It is the most positive of the paper towel filters which is very important for fuel. The TP filters are the big seller.
