GC is now $3.99/quart. Would it be worth it to purchase ELF oil? Is the ELF 0w30 or 5w30 better than the green elixir of car life. It's hard to believe that anything is better than the green.

What is ELF oil?

I'm not Terry or Motorbike, but it's too soon to tell. No used oil analysis.

It's probably very good oil but GC is tought to beat right now. I'd guess the Elf will have a lower Cf then the GC simply bc it's using a F1 based technology or so they say.

There are a few 0w-30's from available Elf .

The one I've been using is not an A3 oil and since I wanted an A5 0w30 I got it .

I'm learning about these oils myself . Whats available in other countries are not available here as of yet when it comes to their entire line-up .

To answer your question with my opinion about oil to use in the LS-1 ... actually I'd pick neither of the two you posted about .

Not dissing either oil , just not what I would use in that motor if I owned one since I was asked

I am intriqued by ELF as well. I am not a Castrol nut by nature, and I have yet to actually fondle a bottle of GC

See the green, smell the gummi bears, wave a bottle over the hood of your running car and hear the motor sound better and pick up 50rpm in smoothosity.

Agree . Agree , and agree .

Geeze wish we could talk instead of type . What typed always seems so final but it's not .

This Elf and their Eleven Synthesis Technology seems a twist off the Fuchs base oil

Not sure , but it does has something to do with

Total synthesis and development of new total synthesis of biologically active natural products

I'll do my best to unravel the base oil deal , Primus might help .It looks like they use EST , PAO only and mixtures of both for different oils they make .

There's many versions of these Elf's , not all the same base oils used in them .

ELF oil ? I think that was outlawed due to the painful nature of the extraction process.

Or maybe it was FROGS used in the base oil for the ELF oil !

Honestly I don't know didly- do-da about their formulation. I can say that if you can afford it it is not the F1 stuff !

Analyze the stuff and see.

Thanks for your replies.

I guess that I will continue to fondle the 32 bottles of the green elixir that I have. Motorbike, would the 5w-40 or the 15w40 be a better match for the LS1. I'm just curious.

My LS1 Corvette seems to be loving GC 0w30 so far. Oil analysis results will hopefully show well too. So far I'm 2600 miles into this interval with zero consumption. It shows no piston slap and my oil temps have been very nice (it almost never goes above 212, most times it's 200-205) I've been getting 20-21 MPG in mixed driving, and up to 28 on the highway at a steady 70mph.

I should have my first UOA results (with 5k on the oil) by the first or second week of October.
