Question concerning accurate cvt fluid measurements

Hi all, I have a question about transmission fluid, temperature, and accurate measurements to ensure good maintenance. Given the issue of change in volume of cvt fluid due to temperature change, could I eliminate this PITA and simply weigh the old and new fluid? Or I guess more accurately, does the weight of cvt fluid vary with temperature? I thought about this after seeing English bakers weighing flour instead of measuring by volume. Thanks and appreciation.

thanks. you didnt answer the question, sound helpful or kind. you rock bro.

What kind of car is it?

With Honda, you can just do the job cold and refill with the same amount you drained.

With Subaru, you need the scan tool to take the temperature of the CVT fluid :sneaky:

Of course replacing what you drained, whether by weight or volume, assumes the prior fill was correct.
I just bite the bullet and follow the procedure. I do use a cheapo temp gun to read the temperature... And level? Well, close works for me.

Just follow the procedure as best as you can and be done with it. You'll be happy once you're done.
