I believe your car would come with a set (non adjustable) cycling switch but could accept an adjustable one with a pigtail connector.
 
What I meant was that it was fixed unless you wanted to tear open the system and change parts out.

To DrDusty, I think this is a plausible approach, likely not done because the $1 in foam insulation over a lot of cars means big costs, and on low profit small cars especially, the money isnt there. Plus, the systems are already oversized for much of the anticipated operations (though of course not all), so they just dont see the benefit.

But Ill bet youll see some.

If I were you, Id try to do some analysis under constant conditions, like put it on and off and time the cycling and changes in vent temps. Report it back.

IT helps a little bit. Colder/lower pressure return to the compressor means that after compression the output gas is a bit cooler and lower pressure than it would be otherwise, which means lower compressor head pressure. I've never understood why accumulator-type HVAC systems put that big Foster's sized (to continue with the beer can analogy) accumulator in the engine bay with no insulation- that's a much larger source of heat into the suction side of the compressor than just the return line itself.


But the help is SMALL, and you have to balance that against possible corrosion. If you seal the insulation up well, then moisture shouldn't be able to get inside in large quantities, though, so on the whole I'd say its worth trying.
