Question about Auto-RX use

Alrighty, I got some Auto-RX to use in my power steering system, in the oil and in the transmission. The question I have is concerning its use in the oil.

Im using Amsoil 0W30 in conjunction with a Dual Remote By-Pass unit and have about 13,000 miles on the oil. I just changed the full flow filter about a thousand miles ago. The by-pass filter wasnt changed. I added about three quarters of a quart of oil to make up for the full flow filter change.

Ive got about 500 miles of driving to do over the next few days and I want to go ahead and take advantage of that, since it will be a lot of highway driving, and add the Auto-RX to the oil. Do you think I will be okay since I just changed the full flow filter? I guess the by-pass filter will have enough life left in it and I'll change it and the full flow at the end of the cleaning phase and try and find a good petroleum oil to use on the rinse phase.

I have a 6.5qt capacity with the by-pass system (normally 4.5 with oil filter) and I really dont want to disconnect the by-pass system for all this. I will also probably pass 100,000 miles sometime in the next week or so, so Im planning on doing the second application. Yeah, I know it will be some what costly with the filter changes but that part I really dont mind.

Also, Im running Amsoil ATF in the transmission, will the Auto-RX work okay with a full synthetic transmission fluid? The instructions seem to indicate all will be fine, but I just want to be sure. Im going to add the Auto-RX to all at the same time. I do about 70 miles of highway driving a day during the work week so it all should go pretty quickly and Im anxious to see the results.

As well the only additive that I have used in the oil and in the transmission have been Lube Control, so do I need use the longer run recommendations of Auto-RX due to that?

Anyway, I would greatly appreciate any advice. Ive read the instructions that came with Auto-RX and feel confident I'll be fine, but after getting the Lube Control and Fuel Power and mis-reading the instructions three times and thinking I needed to add Lube Control to the fuel I think I need to seek any help just to be sure. Don't worry about your bypass. The oil goes through the full flow before the bypass filter so it's not going to clog it or anything. However, it may be time to change it once you're done with both your cleaning and rinse phases.

Also, you should run longer than 1500 miles for cleaning if you feel the need to. Auto-RX works with synthetics, but it's best to use conventional oil due to ester competition for surface area.

Why not bite the bullet and change your oil and not worry about the 1/2 quart or so left in the system? I'd say you got your money's worth of AMSOIL this interval.

Otherwise I wouldn't worry, just drop in the auto-rx, do a 2000 mile cleaning phase, and move on from there.

I went ahead and added the Auto RX to the oil, transmission and power steering. I had considered just changing out the oil to a petroleum for this but I didnt have a by-pass filter on hand though as you mentioned I could have probably just changed out everything else and been fine. Im going to do the second application most likely so I'll use petroleum for sure on that one.

I wanted to run a longer term test with UOA on the 0W30 but I felt more compeled to get the thing cleaned up instead with Auto RX since I will be at 100k miles very soon. I have two previous used oil analysis on the 0W30 so it should give me a sufficient idea of how everything goes before and after.

I have to leave here soon, in about an hour as all my driving time will be starting here shortly so I just wanted to get everything in to take advantage of the extended drives. So I will probably run 2000-2500 miles since I do have the synthetics and the LC in the system unless it gives any indication I need to change it all out before then. That will all take about a month to get through if not sooner with the driving Im going to be doing over today and the weekend.

I would have went ahead and changed out to a petroleum oil but I dont think I would have had time to do so, so I'll just have to make due for now and switch to a petroleum after the cleaning phase and change out both filters then.

Anyway, I gotta get, thanks for the help darkdan. I'll try and report back with anything I notice from the use of Auto RX. My power steering is leaking a little and I have to add fluid to it about every three weeks to a month, so hopefully Auto RX will help that out and then I can put in some fresh fluid when its all done there.
