Questing about temperature gauge

I have 1995 Buick Century 3.1 v6 and i noticed when i cold start it and let it idle for 10min the highest the gauge will go is to the 1st mark after the letter C. Now i never experienced this with any car i owned usually on a cold start and letting the car warm up for 10min the gauge would go in the middle so i dunno whats goin on here but then ill drive and it will go up to the 2nd mark after the c mark and stays there. The heat blows hot and no warning lights on the dash.

Sending unit is probably on its way out.

Thermostat could be opening too early or sticking partially open, too-just had to put a Stant in the '93 GMC for this exact problem, tried new sending unit first, no help.

Where does the gauge end up after the car is fully at operating temperature? Idling for 10 minutes after a cold start will barley get any heat in an engine in cold weather. Takes 20 or 30 minutes under load to stabilize at operating temperature.

The gauge will stay at the 2nd mark after the letter c when i been driving for 20-30min even longer then that but say the car is fully warmed up and i been driving it and i decide to stop and let it stay running for 10-15minutes the gauge will go up slowly and when it reaches the mark right before the red the fan will kick in and the temperature will go back down to normal.

My Chevy truck with the dummy gauge never got over the 1/4 mark on the gauge. My fords and dodge always sat center(roughly)
I wouldn't worry too much if there aren't any issues with how it runs,maybe that's just where it sits. Dummy gauges suck. I bought a 2 gauge cluster for my mustangs a pillar.

Yea the car runs fine i dont see any issues and the coolant overflow rises to the full mark when the car is fully warmed up and driven just like any other car should and heat blows hot.No trouble lights on either.

Thermostat may be stuck partial open and does not fully open either, slow to warm up and restricts flow when driven at speed.

People still warm up cars for 10 minutes??? Waste of gas on a fuel-injected car. Put it in gear and drive off gently. I would not warm up over a minute before driving off. There is some benefit on idling a little bit to let oil pressure build to the top of the engine, but beyond that is unnecessary, and has the additional detriment of putting more gas in the oil.

Not much there.
Get a premium thermostat, not the cheapest.
Less time to install then to diagnose.
If this doesn't fix it, you still did a very good thing for an almost 15 year old moving part.
Of course, a check of the wiring to the sensor and it's connector is good, too. It could very well be the sensor, or a mixture of two things or more wrong.
