Quaker state with Slick 50

I was looking for some Quaker state winte blend and I kept seeing QS with slick 50 on the shelves. Anyone got any Info on this? You guys think it's just good oil with some snake oil in it? Intersted to see what the experts think?

(Looked up Slick 50)PTFE is the common abbreviation used for Polytetrafloeraethylene, more commonly known by the trade name "Teflon," which is a registered trademark of the DuPont Chemical Corporation.

BreakFree my son used in the Military to clean his M-16 and the oil contains Teflon "flakes". Attact grit even when you apply a very thin film. Now the Military is testing Slip 2000 which is non odor bio friendly "likely" an ester base oil. I've used it with zero malfunctions in my rifles.

Thank you for your inquiry.

The Quaker State Higher Mileage Engine Oil no longer contains teflon in the Slick 50 additive that is in this formulation.

There are two things about Shell's motor oil group I really hold against them.

1) They own Slick-50, one of the great scams of modern lubrication history.

2) Shell owns Jiffy Lube, purveyor of scam (see the LA news report about Jiffy Lube rip-offs) and loud preachers of the outdated 3 month, 3000 mile message.

1. They got Slick 50 with the Quaker State deal. They tried to sell it, but no buyers, so they changed the formulation.

2. Shell owns the Jiffy-Lube name and the scam artist in LA are franchises. It's not Shell's fault there are a bunch of crooks in LA.

Just kidding, you made a good point. Most all automotive lubricates get a bad rap like Pennzoil caused sludge stories that are not true. The previous poster who cleared Slick 50 up plus my thread for QS I think cleared things up with the viewers. As for crooks, they're everywhere since the beginning of the oil industry. It's people like us who educates the many when it comes to motor oil and who to deal with.

I typically do not have strong opinions on subjects here, but this is one exception....

One additional problem with Quaker State High Mileage oil with slick 50 is that it does NOT carry the API donut on the oil package. I would never buy an oil for my car, in warranty or not, that did not have the API certification.

Without the API donut QS/Penn can put anything they want in the bottle.

I like and use Pennzoil/QS products, but this really puts a bad taste in my mouth that they would even sell a product like this that does not meet warranty requirements for any car on the road.

They should be required to put in big letters on the front of the package that "this oil does not meet warranty requirements for US cars and trucks".

Several brands of High Mileage spec. oils do not have the donut.
They tend to be on the thick side.

They (other High Mileage oils) have the donut, they just don't have the API starburst.

Quaker State High Mileage Oil with Slick 50 does not have either. It is therfore not required to meet any of the API standards since it does not carry the API donut.

*API-licensed marketers may display two types of Marks: the API Service Symbol "Donut" and the API Certification Mark "Starburst." Each Mark conveys information that can be used by the consumer.

*The API Certification Mark
The API Certification Mark "Starburst" is designed to identify engine oils recommended for a specific application (such as gasoline service). An oil may be licensed to display the Starburst only if the oil satisfies the most current requirements of the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC) minimum performance standard for this application (currently GF-4 for passenger cars). Many automobile manufacturers recommend oils that carry the API Certification Mark.

*The API Service Symbol
The API Service Symbol "Donut" is divided into three parts:
The top half describes the oil's performance level.

*The center identifies the oil's viscosity.
The bottom half tells whether the oil has demonstrated energy-conserving properties in a standard test in comparison to a reference oil.

I have used Quaker State Products and have been satisfied, but one thing that has never set well with me when considering the High Mileage with Slick 50 is the fact that a product data sheet is not available, if you contact Quaker State they send you the Canadian product data sheet.
