I am thinking buying some Quaker State Ultimate Durability 0W20 and 5W50 and mix with a ratio of 3-4 quarts 0W20 and 1 quarts 5W50.

VI of 0W20 is 175 and 5W50 is 192, the mix will result in either a thick xW20 or a thin xW30 with VI in the low 180's.

The only slight problem is NOACK is a little high at around 14%.

What do you guys think ? The mix may be used in Honda S2000 and MB E430. Assume that I can find both grades at local stores or buy online for less than $5/qt.

I've had my eye on the Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5W-50 as well because of it's high 192 VI. One thing about that grade is that it's known to be quite shear prone particularly with GP III based oils.

I'd go a bit more conservative on the blend, say 2qts of the 5W-50 and 4 of the 0W-20 at least for the S2000.

Too bad you don't have an oil pressure guage as that makes blending a whole lot easier particularly when dealing with shear prone oils.

With that NOACK, no thanks.

Where does one find the 5w-50 anyway?

Must have a ton of viis.

The 14% Noack is a little high and it's my main concern too, if it is around 10% then it will be a good oil.

I like 192 VI of 5W50 very much, that why I am thinking about mixing it with 0W20 to raise the VI level to low 180's and HTHS up a little to around 3.0 to use in S2000. If I go with Quaker State Ultimate Durability for the S2000, I probably go with 4 qt 0W20 and 1.5 qt 5W50. Another option is 3.5 qt Toyota 0W20 and 2 qt Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5W50.

I'm thinking about installing OP and OT for the S2000 because I'll keep the car for a long time. I need to do a search for those gauges.

Italians would call this a "Minestrone" or "Pasta and Farjioli (=Beans)" oil a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

I mixed oil grades a couple of times, now I just use the straight Mobil 1 5w50 in a different engine.
