Filter: QS8A
Oil: Trop-Artic 5w30
Vehicle: 1993 Explorer, 89,000 miles
Miles on filter: 5,200
I cut it open just below the crimp with an angle grinder. Media photo is the worst spacing. Looks like where the media was joined perhaps. No tears or breaches on the media were evident.
I really have no criticisms of the filter.

Purolator made with Quaker State name on the can. Looks about like the size of the Purolator 20195, glued seam also. End cap popper.

A purolator classic in QS can. Best thing you could say about it is that it didnt tear. Too bad the end cap fell off. I know, I know...its a non issue. Thanks for cutting and posting though!

Actually the best thing I can say about it is it looks fine. And it's a decent/substantial 5200mi. oci as compared to the ~3k mile ocis I'm seeing posted for a competitor that gets gushed over. Endcap is a non issue, potting intact, function not compromised in use.

Thanks for the pics.

Nice filter!best of both world ,steel one end and classic the oher.this is simple yet probably very reliable.i own a fram ultra and i am sketish about it.(glue and steel in any variant is always a big gamble)i dont know why fram dont make the end in plastic curved like steel etc .(ok i know ,darn static electricity ,hopefully big guns of filter industry will find a way to stop filter being static electricity generator!

@gregk24:just in case you arent pulling my leg, with dino oil a voltage difference happen in the filter caused mostly by the media (and probably the way oil goes in and out of the filter, for synthethic ?same thing happen but polarity is inverted for some odd reason(they dont mention synthetic blend)

Thanks for the comments. I pick QS filters up at Menards on sale for $2 as mentioned by ABerns. It was actually Trop-Artic Synthetic blend 5w30, I forgot to put that in the original post.

Complete gobbledygook. Yes, oil flowing through filter media can create a static charge. But it isn't inverted with a synthetic or blend, and its not affected by the metal end caps. Its all local a charge differential between the medium and the oil flowing through it, not relative to the end caps.
