Quaker State Full Synthetic vs. Quaker State Ultimate Durability differences?

Are there significant differences between QS Full Synthetic and QS Ultimate protection oils?

I have been a dedicated user of Quaker State full synthetic oil for years now (and Quaker State Ultimate Durability before the name change) in all my Mazdas (8 to date). The full synthetic is getting harder to find either due to popularity ( lower cost) or maybe declining sales at my local Walmarts. I liked the increased levels of moly (which Mazda seems to continue to incorporate in their oils) in the Quaker State full synthetic. Does anyone know if the Quaker State Ultimate Protection has increased moly levels or comparable moly levels to Quaker State full Synthetic? Quaker State Ultimate Protection is more readily available and might be my future option. Thanks

In a couple VOA samples on each of them contain around 140PPM Moly. Not much different in that regard. The Quaker State Ultimate Protection is a 20K oil so kind of for extended drain intervals. I use it, but always drain at 5K. The Quaker State Ultimate Protection may have a better base oil (GTL I think, similar to Pennzoil.)

Don't think Menard's reaches out as far as Colorado----but for people w/a Menard's near them; Menards stocks Quaker State Full Synthetic at very competitive prices

For the couple dollars more -- Quaker State Ultimate Protection which is Quaker States top the line product is well worth it. The Quaker State Ultimate Protection is totally a sleeper oil. Anybody that has not tried it atleast once -- should!!!

It’s too bad they don’t sell it in Canada, I would recommend it for my friends up here. I ran it in my Civic just before my three runs with Valvoline Restore and Protect.

My feeling is with the base stock interchange allowance, you never know what the basestock blend truly is batch to batch.

My former favourite Quaker State Full Synthetic 10W-30 shows a pour point of -54 deg C (ASTM D97) . You are not getting that with non GTL grp III
A jug I purchased a year later and installed did not perform magic like the previous one.

Quaker State Ultimate is the only oil I will use, and I put it in everything. Highly recommend to my friends, family and co-workers as well. You just can't beat the green bottle for value and performance!

I've only seen that said at BITOG, but I've never seen any supporting evidence. I haven't seen it stated on QS website or data sheet, but maybe I didn't read carefully enough, or maybe they used language I didn't understand.

I'd like it to be true because Quaker State Ultimate Protection Full Synthetic is affordable and easy to obtain at Walmart.

Yes, but they're not the same oils based on data sheets, VOAs, and used oil analysis. However, they probably share some technology/attributes.

I prefer QS & Shell oils over Pennzoil because QS & Shell synthetic oils (for whatever reason) typically have higher KV100 cSt viscosity for a given grade than Pennzoil synthetic oils. Also QS has better prices than Pennzoil. In some cases Shell also has better prices.

I prefer whatever that mentioned made by Gas to Oil GTL process. It is just clearly better than plain heavily hydrocracked mineral oil (HC synthetic = group III).
GTL oil has all the benefit of group III, more stable than group III, much less price than group IV PAO. I think QS, Shell, Pennzoil sold the GTL under the top of the line Platinum Ultra.

I downloaded and checked data sheets in recent past, and looked at VOAs & used oil analysis posted at BITOG.

1) Pennzoil Ultra Platinum has lower than average viscosity per grade.
2) Quaker State Full Synthetic has slightly higher than average viscosity per grade.
3) Quaker State High Mileage Full Synthetic has slightly higher than average viscosity per grade.
3) Quaker State Ultimate Protection Full Synthetic has much higher than average viscosity per grade.
4) Quaker State oils cost much less than PUP.

There's also differences in additives. They're not the same oils. All 3 are available at my local Walmart. All my local autostores all carry PUP. NAPA sells Quaker State. Oreilly does not sell Quaker State.

If Quaker State Ultimate Protection Full Synthetic really is GTL or part GTL that's another feather in its cap.

Yes, GTL oil usually has significantly less additives package needed to satisfy the requirements for VW 508 509, Dexos D, etc. compared to HC or PAO+Ester oil. It relies on the robust characteristics of the base GTL oil. Less gor more concept is very intriguing
