Quaker State consumer front label is/was horrible

I just cleared Walmarts 5 qt Q Toque 5w30 out (at $11 each I had to) Quaker State has to have the very worst front badge/label of any other oil, even store brand oils have a decent front advertising badge. I'm not one for pretty colors, mushy manly words, but just Quaker State, or a big Q with Quaker State in smaller letters would have been better. I have never run Quaker State my entire life, have read it's a decent oil, so $11 for "full synthetic" I thought I couldn't pass it up, also scored 6 quarts of Castrol Syntec 10w30 at $1.50 a quart.

There were a couple jugs of Q Torque 10w30 I may go back and get those as well, I don't see any problem running 10w30 in a Honda Accord 4 cylinder that calls for 5w-20 during summer months, if anyone thinks it will cause any problems please let me know.

As is I doing 7500 mile oil changes per Honda owners manual, this oil should last me a while, however I could probably push that mileage some with the "synthetic"

Comments on the 10w30 ?

10W-30 for summers in Georgia is a good choice. My Lancer calls for 5W-20 as Preferred and 10w30 if operating temperature is over 100 degrees. We hit at least a week or two of those temps here in Southern California so that's what I use in summer per their recommendation during these months.

Thanks Peter_Pan. Yep Georgia summers get scorching, I guess that's what makes the mosquitoes grow so big, last year I seen a big one stand flat footed and rape a full grown turkey.....

I will go back tomorrow and grab a few more jugs, on my 97 Accord with 4 cylinder I ran Shell Rotella T 5w-40 for a long time, that is some outstanding oil. I wished the would put the same exact oil package into a 5w-20 or a 0w-20 that would save my oil brand/price searches. With the new Diesels coming out maybe they will drop the oil weights some, and I will get my wish. I have a long time to go before I change it, I splurged on the Castrol Edge LOL, and not because I want to be good to my motor, it was more due to wanting to try the new oil out, that and all the bashing of it here. I real a lot of bad things about Castrol here, however that's what I have used most of my life in the dino version.

I would like to, and some time in the future probably settle down, and pick a good 5w-20 oil, however there are just to many good deals on 5w30 put on clearance at half original price.

I picked a couple Valvoline synthetic quarts up for $3.50 and a quart of Mobil 1 5W30 Truck&SUV for $4 at various Walmarts.

You're right on the money with Rotella. It's actually one of the only diesel oils one can pick up at 10w30 weight which also meets SM specs! Perfect for summers here with GREAT VI and Viscosity numbers. I'm really tempted to try it out in the Lancer this summer I have an old thread about what oil to pick on that car which I will resurrect soon when the next OCI comes around.

$11 for a 5qt jug? That's a fantastic price. WM's here are selling it for $17 - $18 per jug.
