2002 Envoy, 4L60E trans. 68k miles. This is what Ive been doing:
1.)Changed the trans filter and fluid (in the pan- about 6-7 quarts) about 3 weeks ago.
2.) Every week since Ive been siphoning out (with a hand pump) about 5 quarts of fluid from the trans and refilling it with Quaker State Dexron III-Mercon (actually siphoned it about 3 times now). Its not synthetic, just the regular stuff. I bought it at Wal-mart in a 1 gallon jug for $5.37.

Im doing it this way because dropping the pan each time sucks and I got a great deal on a hand pump siphon. Also, the fluid was pretty dirty (original owner never changed). After 3 changes it finally looks decent. I plan on siphoning once, maybe twice more.

I was just wondering if anybody has any opinions/facts on this transmission fluid. Is QS ATF Dexron III-Mercon superior or inferior to other OTC brands?

If I was doing it after the fluid is pretty clean, I would add a bottle of Lubegard in the red bottle it cost about $10, then run it for 15,000 miles and change the filter again, Lubegard is not a cleaner it is an additive that works great. Most transmission shops that I know of recommend it, at least the good ones.

Changing fluid is a good maintenance practice.

Your Walmart fluid is probably as good as the QS stuff.

You might also want to try an Auto-RX procedure.
