No, but when one works in a field, one should have some degree of expertise. What would you call a heart surgeon that didn't know anything about anatomy? A police officer that didn't know the law? A mechanic that couldn't use a wrench?

I'm not saying a counter person should have all the application catalogs memorized, but knowing a bit about what they sell is beneficial.

that is correct. experience is preferable but calling someone an idiot do to lack of knowledge and training is a fools play. You can call the management an idiot for lack of team member training. My GM,myself, and my newer team members all have automobile experience prior joining Advance auto. However reading some of the post' on this thread makes me a bit [censored]. people can be disgusting. You walk in my store with that attitude you'll be pointed back out. call customer support all you want , harresment by "customers" will not be tolerated. Sometimes i feel like people forget that us parts people are just that, people also.

I really appreciate a good parts person. I deal with some really good guys daily getting parts for work. Its nice to have someone who knows their product and makes me look good when i get the right part the first time around. I can get the job done fast and makes things easier. I like to bring them a little treat from dairy queen or an almond joy for one guy haha.
