It has been two weeks now since I got my oil changed at the Honda stealership for my leased 2010 Accord EX. I have some free coupons so I figured I should use them. Anyway, I had used my own QSUD 5w20 for the last fill and this time the shop changed it out and said they used Castrol GTX 5w20. I have given it time but I can tell a marked difference in increased noise and rougher idling. I am not here to start a war but I thought I would share the info. I have heard that Honda's like EDGE, but after this experience I would never use GTX. Maybe it is an unfair comparison? The price dif. isn't that wide.

Different engines like different oils, that's oil.

My wife's cav hates the PP in there now, while my Cobalt loved it.

Mind you it's the same engine. Who knows...

+1 ...At $19.00 for a 5 qt. jug of QSUD at Walmart that can run 8K miles in a V6 ...that's a good deal !

Valvoline claims it`s the same weather in bottle,or bulk.

Happens sometimes. My fiancee's mom drives an '05 Corolla that was noisy with Synpower. OTOH, my brother's '07 F150 5.4 has sounded quiet with all oils used(M1, Schaeffer's, PP, MC5000, Motorcraft).

But, I agree with you. If a certain oil was "louder" in my car, I wouldn't use it. I'm sure it's fine, but would bother me too much.

So this should automatically apply to Castrol?

I`m just stating what response I got from Valvoline.

I still stand by my statement then especially since Pennzoil Bulk caused varnish in my old engine, something PYB wouldn't normally do.

Made my Civic sputter and give me hard time starting. Grandson in a 6 cyl Accord loves it. Go figure true some cars love some oils others spit it out. Does this ever happen with dino?????

That's assuming you trust the person knows what's actually in the bulk oil drums. For all we know it could be any brand of cheap oil.

Typically GTX quiets an engine IMO. But it's been a while since I used it.

Agreed.
GTX tends to be at the thicker end of any given viscosity range, and thus does tend to quiet things down.
At least it always seemed to in any engine I used it in.

GTX is perfect oil for the old-schoolers. That, and GTX Hi-Mi in Green bottle.

GTX and 3000 mile OCI in 10W-30 makes MANY MANY MANY ENGINES HAPPY.

Also, i heard MaxLife trumps GTX Hi-Mi. Confirm or deny?

QS is QS. Overshadowed by PYB, but just as good, and another "Absolutely nothing wrong with it" .. like PYB, or GTX.

VWB gets overshadowed too.

I kid you not, mid-year a WalMart was blowing out "Q Horsepower" for $5 a 5 GALLON JUG. MAYBE $10. I cant remember anything from "May."

Are these the same mechanics that say that Kendall is so named because it's made out of wax like a "candle"?
