QS Defy actually a full synthetic?

If the MSDS is accurate, then Defy is an incredible value.
FWIR, Grp III basestock prices have been declining, so it may be that SOPUS is using an inexpensive source of Grp III.

Right but you can't always tell the difference of some base oils based on cas numbers was my point. However like the 0w20 for QSUD says a blend of esters and others, for example.
 
Quaker Dtate's website describes Defy as a "Synthetic Blend" motor oil, fwiw. Don't know why they would say that if it was a full syn, unless they're afraid of cannibalizing QSUD sales.

That's my guess.
 
FWIW

I have SN Defy in my truck right now and it's great. Oil pressure at startup is a little lower than ST conventional. Leads me to believe it's pumping along nicely.

My trucks pushrods like it.
 
I used Defy in 5w30 for a portion of last winter and starts were fantastic, very surprising for a "thickish" 5w30 HM oil.
