Kmart has this stuff for a really nice price ($1.99 / qt). Would this be a good Mercon V replacement? Anyone know if this is a quality ATF? How's it compare to:

Castrol Mercon V
Pennzoil Mercon V
Aamco Syn blend / Mercon V (Exxon/Mobil)
Valvoline Durablend

Thanks!

Good question! I going to have to change out my 01 F150 here pretty soon and was pondering the same thing. If I had to make a choice just by looking at it, I think I would go with the Pennzoil. For the reason that they make a pretty good dino motoroil and have used oil analysis to prove it. However.....I just found out that Mobil 1 has just announced that they have a Mercon V fluid. But when you read the fine print, this stuff is also rated for GM engines too. Don't feel good about that.

It seems most Mercon V fluids a dual rated (Dexron III / Mercon V) if you read the fine print. I currently have the old Havoline Equilon Merc V in mine. I was wondering about QS, since (at Kmart) it is $2 / qt, while many other stores want $3 / qt. for most other brands.

After making that comment, I did a little internet research and sure enough, your right. This is my first Ford and still getting the bugs out of my GM thought process. I guess I'll just have to live with that kind of specifications. With that in mind, I may just try out the M1 Mercon V.
