After mulling over spec sheets on different oils, I find that my next oil change should be with Q horsepower (that and its what the dealer uses).

Also its something like $21/jug when PP is $26, so that's another plus for it.

I went to 2 walmarts to find they were out of all the Q horsepower jugs. They had some quarts but I really dont feel like buying them separately, and it didnt look like they had the 8 I need for an oil change. I also checked advance autoparts to find that they too were sold out of the jug. ***.

Is there some short of Q horsepower shortage that I should be made aware of?

Not that I'm aware of. I was just at WM the other day and saw a few. I think they tend to stock less of that since it's a slower mover--at least that seems to be the case here.

If you can find an employee to flag down, they're normally Ok with going into the back to grab a jug or two for you.

On a side-note, Pennzoil Platinum is up to $26 in your neck of the woods?

Also, about automobile dealers, be sure that you watch them like a hawk. Some dealers say that they put one type of oil in a car or truck, then you look up the numbers, and it is not the same as what they said that they put in, based upon the invoice. If you find an excellent dealer that treats you fairly, and does not "rip you off", then stay with that dealer.

The invoice says that they put in the oil that they said they would put in, but the numbers for the oil belong to a different oil.

My dealer doesnt [censored] me there very strait with whats going on. However they do charge an arm and a leg more then other dealers. Thank god for being under warranty.

PP and castrol syntec are the same as mobil 1 here. Q horsepower seems to be the only thing thats good and cheap. And this data sheet tells me its really good.

I'm using Q-HP 5w30 now in my Malibu. It seems like it's doing an Ok job for the most part. I plan on doing a UOA when I drain it out in a month or so. We'll see how it handled severe service stop and go driving, -16F temperatures one morning, and some possible fuel dilution and condensation.

My one gripe is that it didn't give it the horsepower of Jeff Gordon's race car since he is on the jug. Then again, I've never seen an oil convert a FWD to a RWD either

Plenty of Q HP at the Wal-Marts here in 5qt jugs. However, it is actually more $$$ than the PP. $23 for the 5qt PP and $25 for the Q HP. Great oil however. I have run it a few times and really liked it.

Only one weight readily available around here however, so you better need/want 5w30, which IMO hurts sales of it. 5w30 is a popular weight no doubt but there are other weights offered and that people need/want but no store carries it. I looked for some 5W-20 the other day and couldn't even find individual qts let alone 5qt jugs ANYWHERE!

Yeah, I was gonna run the torque power 5w30 exclusivley in my jeep, but I can't find it anymore, all walmart has it the 10w30. If I want horsepower, all they have is the 5w30.

As for the walmart stock, I don't know, maybe you hit them at the end of their restocking cycle, my local walmart had their shelves full of it. And its $21 a jug for it at mine, and $23 for the PP.

I looked for the TP 1st as well but as you said it was pretty much just the 10w30. I did find a couple WM's that had it in 5w30 once in a while though. Just not consistant enough for me to use it. I like to pick an oil and stay with it for as long as I own the vehicle. I have seen the TP in different weights in qt bottles at various parts stores but at $6.99+ no thanks.

The price of oil these days is RIDICULOUS!

I've watched QS over the last several years and their execution has been all over the map.

First a few years of changing Q-this to Q-that.

Finally Q-HP comes along and it looks stout...like it's using Shell's VHVI base. Their 5W40 looks to be in M1 0W40 class with all the OEM approvals (including Ferrari/Maserati!). I would love to try the 10W60. See spec here: http://www.qpower.com/doc/PDS_HorsePower.pdf

Then all I find is _W30 in Kragens. WM also but I expect them to limit selection. And all I saw was one promotion in 1.5 years it has been out.

Maybe SOPUS doesn't care since PP seems to be doing so well.

They used to carry it in 5W-20 here in both quarts and jugs, but that's long gone.

Walmart sucks about carrying 5W-20. They had absolutely no quarts of Motorcraft or Supertech 5W-20 last time I was in.
