i have a 2007 mazda turbo with direct injection and have run a search to find only 2 uoa's. they were both from the same member and both had fuel dilution. 1 had 4400 miles on the oil with a 2% dilution and the other one only 1800 miles with a trace amount. the reason i am concerned with the dilution issue is because of threads from a mazda forum that ive seen about strong fuel smell from the oil dipstick. i then went to my own vehicle to find the same strong odor. just wondering if you would shorten your oci's due to fuel dillution. im too cheap to do an analysis but according to my nostril and adding the other mazda members detection of the fuel odor and the 2 analysis that ive seen this is enough data for me to be concerned......concerned turbo mazda owner

turbomazda, I have a Sienna mini-van that I guarantee you the oil smells like fuel. And I've compared it to other oils smells in other engines - theirs did not smell like fuel, mine does. I was worried enough to send in a sample to Blackstone w/ just 4.3k miles on the oil (sample taken thru the dipstick) - Blackstone reported back that I had "no fuel in the oil" (I had wrote a note to them on my concerns, so they wrote back a long hand explanation). So perhaps that smell of gas is some type of vapors in the crankcase that smell like fuel (???) - but it's not gas. Since I took the sample thru the dipstick hole - which is a slow drip process - I'm worried that the fuel may have evaporated in the sample - but I doubt it would evaporate to the pt of being undetectable, so I guess I was wrong. Anyway, you might want to spend $22.50 to calm your fears once for all w/ a UOA. I was convince of what I was smelling, but I was wrong.
