Hi all...I was pretty much set on continuing the Accord (2.7L V6) on the PYB my cousin has been using since he got it at about 39,000 miles (not sure what the original owner used). I bought the car from him at 56,000 miles. The car only has 62,000 miles and I'm using it for work (I'm a field rep. and the cars sees 95% highway miles at 65 mph or slower...all the highways around here are 55mph "two laners" so ideal driving conditions). I did an ARX treatment and am finishing up the rinse phase on the PYB and am tempted to switch it to Platinum. I haven't run a car on dino oil for years and winter temps here in the great frozen north are frequently subzero. I'm 90% convinced that the good 'ol PYB will do the trick...anyone else think I have anything to gain by switching to PP?

What are your OCI? Or rather, what do you want them to be or need them to be to avoid doing oil changes in the middle of winter?

The new yellow bottle dino has extra cleaners.
I am using it is my ZX2 right now.
If you get the right grade, either will work just fine for you.
Dino or synth choice basically comes down to how frequent your oil changes are. Like to go long because you rack up the miles fast? Use full synthetic.

Pennzoil Ultra is another fine choice for you in that brand.

PP at 5k intervals is a waste. If you're going to stick to 5k, just use PYB, otherwise, at least stretch it to 7 or 8k.

It sounds like you put a lot of miles on, mostly hwy. What I'd do is run the PP for 5k or 6k for the first oil change. Then get a UOA and see what the results are and how much further you can go.

The UOA on the Impala at 5,500 miles was very good on the PP...probably could go longer. I'll try a 6,000 mile run on the PP in the Accord and see how it looks...Thanks, guys...

Honda engines are very easy on oil, it can handle 5-6k OCI with dino easily, with syn oils you should be able to have 9-10k OCI. I had PP in '00 MB E430 for 1 year/12k OCI, yes it has 8.5 qt sump so it helps a little.

any oil will work in that 96 v6 accord so go with the cheaper one. those engines are near bullet proof. my friend has one with 250k with no consumption and saw redline numerous times a day.
