I know this sounds like a strange question. One of my Pennzoil 5qt jugs sprung a leak. I had an empty 1 gallon bleach bottle laying around that I was saving for used oil disposal. I was wondering what would happen if I poured the new oil (only 4 quarts) from the leaky jug into the empty bleach bottle. Would any of the sodium hypochlorite residue effect the oil? I did not pour it in, but was wonder what would happen if I did. I just put the Pennzoil jug in a plastic bag, and turned it upside down.

I would guess that if you rinse it out really well and then make sure it is completely dry, it should work fine. I want to see your wife's expression when she hurriedly pours some "bleach" into the laundry only to find it's motor oil. Better label that jug well.

Id go buy an empty jug and label it so it does not get mixed up. I wouldnt want to potentially contaminate an oil going into my engine.

IMO....no problem.

I sometimes use empty, well washed out and dried "Arizona Iced Tea" Gallon Jugs for blending and mixing oils if I don't have any empty Oil Jugs available. Those Iced Tea Jugs have a nice wide mouth and are well built for pouring.

Leave some bleach in! It will allow the oil to perform like Royal Purple in the one-armed-bandit machine

It's funny because there is an element of truth to it!

Anyway what I'd do is swing by you're local oil change shop (preferably one that uses Pennzoil) and pick-up some emply
oil bottles. It's nice to stick with the correctly labelled container for your oil.

At the Walmart Tire and Lube Express I worked at, we used empty WW fluid jugs to measure 5W-20 from a drum for cars. No rinsing, just find an empty one, put oil in, and go.

I hated it, but things were always rush-rush in the shop, so no time to do stuff right.....

I honestly wouldn't do it. Two products that I just don't want to mix together.

Indeed, I don't want bleach near much of anything especially myself.

I would go look for a new jug to put it in or something. Or maybe it's time for a new used oil container and for now you could keep the new oil in it? (Don't know how clean these come from the factory though, might be plastic debris inside)?

If anything, if you have a receipt receipt, maybe you could even write Pennzoil and let them know the bottled leaked.

Good luck!

I second the vinegar. Put a cup of white vinegar in, swirl vigorously for 30sec every 10min or so and then maybe add a bit of baking soda immediately before rinsing many times.

Go down to the Walmart and just ask the shop for a empty old oil jug. Done.

The most important part is the correct labeling of stuff like this. Never good to use a mislabeled container if possible. Also the bleach usually creates a brittleness in the plastic.
